MUGS

[edit]

The part about the golf reads like an advertisment and not something that is suitable for wikipedia. i'm going to delete it if nobody argues. Can someone please correct the population stats. Neither the numbers nor the percentages add up correctly —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.69.13.55 (talk) 12:59, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What about Hey Dad..! (mentioned in German Wikipedia) or Freedom Ride (Australia). This needs a photo or two as well.--Grahamec 13:30, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody is looking for verified information on the freedom riders. How good is first-hand, eye-witness information? I was there at the time. I lived in Walgett. I have a number of original photographs of protesters picketing the Walgett RSL Club. Not only do I have the photographs - I HAVE THE NEGATIVES AS WELL! I can verify the fact that the ladies dress shop owner would not allow aboriginal women to try on dresses prior to buying. I also know the name of the chap who allegedly ran the freedom riders' bus off the road. He was charged but found not guilty. There is no need therefore to publish his name. I knew him well - he was a mate of mine. I lived in Walgett from 1952 to 1972 and returned several times a year to visit family and friends, and my work took me there many times between 1988 and 2000. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spear (talkcontribs) 10:36, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO a blog that contains an eyewitness account should be acceptable as a source but noted as [self-published source] rather than removed altogether. Downsize43 (talk) 22:46, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'd consider that, but it fails points one, two and four of the policy about primary sources about themselves: it involves exceptional claims and claims about third parties, and it doesn't have any authorship information. I'm also one of those old-fashioned Wikipedians who hates tags with a passion and believes they should only be used as a last resort. Graham87 01:47, 13 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There has been so much information on Walgett’s sporting facilities that has been completely removed from this page. Instead there is now a plethora of Indigenous content. I’d hardly call that balanced. Spear (talk) 04:56, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Crime

[edit]

Shortened this passage slightly to de-emphasise it. It made Walgett sound like South Central LA or something which it's not. I'd rather walk the streets of Walgett at night than many other provincial Australian cities. Gamin77 (talk) 12:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is his relationship to Walgett? There is nothing in his article which mentions Walgett.Fleet Lists (talk) 06:44, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have since found a reference [1] which relates both to this George Rose and his grandfather who also went by that name - but only the latter is mentioned as a Walgett local. Hence I will delete the NRL player as he came from Bathurst and not Walgett.Fleet Lists (talk) 07:23, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
