@Alexandermcnabb may i know why are you against the wadi dawan image that i have added? Abo Yemen 10:57, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see no reason to replace the header image of the article, which is perfectly sufficient and appropriate. And I see absolutely no reason why a Yemeni wadi would be more appropriate than a Jordanian wadi - and certainly none why an article should have two header images. By all means add the Yemeni wadi to the gallery, but I would seek consensus to replace the header image. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The jordanian wadi isn't notable for it to be the main image of the article. And this isn't about the nationalities of the wadis anyways. Any wadi notable enough to have its own article should be the main image and not just a random wadi in wherever Abo Yemen 09:24, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adequacy of the definition

[edit]

At Oman#Geography, someone just added a section "Rivers & Wadis" with a main article hatnote for List of wadis of Oman and the content

Oman does not possess any rivers, but it possesses many wadis (Arabic term for river valley) that can temporarily fill with water when rain occurs.

It seemed bad form to mention "rivers" in the heading only to say Oman has none, so I renamed the section "Wadis" and revised the content to

Oman possesses many wadis (Arabic term for river valley) that can temporarily fill with water when rain occurs.

But then I noticed the remaining text defines "wadi" as "river valley", which made me wonder how a land can have river valleys without rivers. I wondered whether the definition of "wadi" there was incomplete, so I came here and discovered the same thing.

So: Is a wadi necessarily a river valley? In that case, if Oman has no rivers, how can it have wadis? Or else, if a wadi isn't necessarily a river valley, can someone provide the necessary clarification in the lead? I guess there's a third case, where you can have river valleys without rivers, but I doubt that's the case and would want an explanation of that. Largoplazo (talk) 18:11, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
