October 2021 Edit Request

[edit]

Hi there - I work for WFYI and was wanting to submit some proposed changes to this page in order to ensure it is up-to-date and accurate, but want to respect the proper process (not editing it myself).

Please let me know if this edit is possible and if I should format it differently.

The station's current president and CEO is Greg Petrowich as of July 2019. Source: https://www.wfyi.org/wfyi-press-room/greg-petrowich-to-succeed-retiring-lloyd-wright-as-wfyi-president-and-ceo

Done Ok, I just removed the sentence as neither Wright nor Petrowich are currently on the PBS board. --Lasunncty (talk) 00:19, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Feb 2018 Table Update

[edit]

WFYI has announced that OTA receivers must rescan starting 10AM 26 Feb 2018. The only explanation so far is "newly installed broadcast equipment".

Does anyone know what is happening? Are they changing their RF channel?

I believe that altering their sub-channel usage (for example, adding 20.4 or going from SD to HD) wouldn't require a configuration change in the tables. Further, table updates can be "pushed" by the broadcasters.

So why the need to rescan? — Preceding unsigned comment added by HiTechHiTouch (talkcontribs) 11:36, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split

[edit]

It has been nearly a year [1] since the split was proposed with no comments. I think there is no need to have separate articles about the FM and TV divisions of the same organization, especially since the article about the combined entity is already so small. I will remove the {{Split-multiple}} after July 12, 2007, the one year anniversary of it's addition. --rogerd 06:51, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Drill time:

Prose

[edit]

History

[edit]

Prologue

  • ... with the idea of bringing in educational programming from Indiana University for broadcast or possibly supporting a station that would be built by Butler University or Indiana Central College, now the University of Indianapolis. might better read as ... with the idea of bringing in educational programming from Indiana University for broadcast or possibly supporting a station that Butler University or Indiana Central College would build, now the University of Indianapolis.
  • ... studios would be at Indiana Central Possible missing word "located" before "at".
  • ..., citing the fact that the WTTV tower move condition was a hindrance to approving channel 20 Possible omit "the fact that" for better flow?
  • WTTV responded by sweetening its proposal, stating that it would offer use of the existing ... Possible missing word "the" before "use".
  • In July, the amended application was mailed to the FCC ... To remove a pause, you could reword it to The amended application was mailed to the FCC in July, ...
  • During this time, WTIU went on the air in March 1969, ... Omit "the"?
  • A group was formed by mayor Richard Lugar to raise funds to sustain operations and receive a matching grant might read better as Mayor Richard Lugar formed a group to raise funds to sustain operations and receive a matching grant.

Construction and relaunch

  • ... the logjam finally broke at the end of June. "Logjam" might be an inaccessible phrase here for certain audiences. I would possibly throw in another synonym like "stalemate" or "impasse".
  • When Sesame Street began airing that fall, WLWI aired the series until WFYI could begin broadcasting. Since "began" is already used here, maybe make "begin" as "start" to avoid repetition.
  • The launch was originally set for September, ... I would specify a year since it is a new paragraph.

1990s to today

  • in order to to to.
  • The state of Indiana eliminated funding for WFYI in 2009 due to a major revenue shortfall stemming from the Great Recession "stemming" might be an extra word here as "from" connects shortfall to the Great Recession.

Funding

[edit]
  • In fiscal year 2021, WFYI TV had total revenue of $8.67 million. Possible missing word "a" before "total".

Programming

[edit]
  • WFYI has rarely been a large producer of network programming—historically, this was because there were fewer underwriters for expensive productions, as fewer major companies were headquartered in Indianapolis. A new sentence could start with "Historically" while reducing a few words in the sentence as they run a bit awkward ("this was because"), maybe it could look like WFYI has rarely been a large producer of network programming. Historically, the station was largely absent of network programming because there were fewer underwriters for expensive productions, as fewer major companies were headquartered in Indianapolis. unless it is necessary to connect these two statements directly.

Analog-to-digital conversion

[edit]
  • WFYI shut down its analog signal, over UHF channel 20, on June 12, 2009, ... There may not need be a comma pause for "signal" or "20" here.

Alrighty, skim-through and read-through very good. Mainly suggestions and some corrections. Will do a spot check soon and rest of article review write-up. Adog (TalkCont) 03:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Additional comments or concerns

[edit]
  • Spot check: I am not sure if the source supports part of the sentence ... in 1952, but activity around the channel did not begin for nearly a decade after. It mentions the rest, and partially mentions that the FCC had designated the channel "as an educational channel" but nothing more.
    • Reworded.
  • Spot check: ... though no station materialized is not mentioned within the source cited, though the former half of the sentence is. Possible missing source?
  • Not a statement on the article, more-so on 1969 reporting, but just ouch what a headline: "Drama On The Retarded, And New Retard Comedy". This hurt my head.

Well written + verifiability

[edit]

The article is well written, with only minor suggestions for flow or corrections. The article has a general manual of style that follows TV stations. The article cites a variety of reliable sources that are properly formatted in a reference table. The article's spot checks were mostly good, just some points above. In terms of Earwig's report, it is clear from the common-cold of plagiarism, close paraphrasing, or copyright problems. Adog (TalkCont) 04:38, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Broadness + focus + neutral

[edit]

The article is broad in scope for its content on the subject matter, with a refined focus on key details. The article is neutral, with no outstanding problems. Adog (TalkCont) 03:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Images + stability

[edit]

The article's image of the station's logo is relevant to illustrate the subject. The paperwork for it is properly filed. The article is stable, with no active or ongoing edit conflicts. Adog (TalkCont) 03:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Sammi Brie: Alrighty, this review is complete with only some minor problems reporting! Let me know when you are finished! :) Adog (TalkCont) 04:38, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Adog: Responded to practically everything and made most of the prose tweaks. There are one or two changes I did not make in terms of prose wording. I did fix the spot check issues with some new newspaper refs. The Butler application drops off the radar immediately after filing in its own paper and in the Indianapolis papers and the trades, so hard luck there. But the fact it was incomplete by the university's own admission does hint at it. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:34, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
