VW Family

[edit]

There is no information on how the Sharan is related to the rest of the VW family other than the statement that the next generation will share the Passat platform. Can anyone add information for the first version at least? Is it a Golf/Jetta derivative?Jkolak (talk) 07:11, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Width of the Sharan

[edit]

I do not understand the information in the info box where it states that the width of the Sharan changed from 2150 mm preface-lift to 1810 mm post face lift. That's over a foot of difference in anglo-american measures, and the car didn't change that much between facelifts. Does anyone have a handbook handy? Otherwise (by way of a clue) I see that the French wiki gives the width as 2150 mm whereas German wiki gives the width as 1810 mm. Neither bothers to differentiate between pre and post face lift widths. IF the width were 1810 mm the car should appear a little wider than it is high whereas if the width is 2150 mm then it should appear much wider than it is high. (Height is also affected by whether or not you are looking at one with roof bars: though they all fit under the bar in a standard urban car park.) But there must, in this context, be a better way to arbitrate between the two widths stated: Im sure one of them is wrong. Charles01 (talk) 19:06, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One includes the side mirrors one does not.

I got my info from Volkswagen Driver magazine as I did not have any other info on hand. --VWphaetonfan (talk) 09:29, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MQB

[edit]

For the millionth time I've removed the claim that the MK2 Sharan is based on the MQB platform. The 1st model that will be based on this platform is the new Audi A3 which will debut summer 2012. The company has stated so in investor publications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VMIKEW (talkcontribs) 2011-01-23T11:28:52

According to both Autocar, autoten.com and a bunch of other sites on the internet you are wrong. --Heb (talk)

No, they're wrong. I've read about the MQB in an official company publication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VMIKEW (talkcontribs) 20:26, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you cite the publication you refer to? It's possible the production schedules of the next A3 and the Sharan II may have changed since the MQB matrix was first announced. Letdorf (talk) 23:01, 24 January 2011 (UTC).[reply]

If you check a lot of recent news articles about the Golf mkVII, even from publications that originally quoted the Sharan to be based on the MQB they now say that the Audi A3 will be the first model based on it. To find the publication I'm talkking about type "first model to be based on the MQB will be the audi a3 volkswagenag.com" on google and scroll down to the pdf file titled "Volkswagen - The integrated automotive group" and then skip to page 44. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VMIKEW (talkcontribs) 08:48, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
