Creation of this article is premature

[edit]

I'm not saying this isn't happening, but reading the sources provided (and other news articles on the topic), this article has been made prematurely.

Two of the three sources used in this article mention this topic. Both of those sources (CBC & ESPN) do not provide any official confirmation that the franchise has been granted. It should also be noted that the anonymous reports provided by CBC and ESPN contradict the other's. The CBC's anonymous source states the franchise has been granted, while ESPN's anonymous source provides a somewhat contradictory assertion that the WNBA and Kilmer Group are in the "final stages of negotiations".

While this isn't a sports transaction, one would think the spirit of Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions would apply to this as well (in that we only act on official announcements, so that we don't report contradictory anonymous reporting/rumours as was the case here).

With that said, I have blanked the content for now and redirected this page to Larry Tanenbaum#Sports, similar to what was done with Utah NHL team (being redirect to Ryan Smith (businessman)#National Hockey League franchise) when that article was made premature of its official announcement. Minor update, but I've restored the page now that its official. Leventio (talk) 20:52, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
