I will take a look at this.--ZKang123 (talk) 03:44, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]
  • Most of the images here are under CC license or public domain.
  • Poster has non-free rationale
  • File:F-14A Tomcat in Top Gun Maverick.png – I'm unsure about the use of a screenshot of an F14 from the film to illustrate the depiction of the F14 in the film. Like, why not use a photo of an actual F14, like the image of the USS Abraham Lincoln?

Lead

[edit]

Plot

[edit]
  • I did some slight copyediting of the plot, but personally I think it's still a bit long. Then again, it might be due to the technical military details, the rank, call signs and names and so on.

Cast

[edit]

Production

[edit]
  • attendees were able to watch for the first time some early footage of the filmattendees were given a first look at some early footage of the film
  • During the presentation – I think you can remove this part. It's quite clear enough Viane and Daily are at the presentation.
  • Also are their job titles as part of them being in Paramount?
  • the project was unexpectedly stalled – remove "was"
  • For the paragraph beginning with Scott had apparently finalized the script and begun scouting locations.... I suggest shifting it earlier, since Scott scouted these in 2012 before his death.
  • McQuarrie opted to mostly ignore the first film during the writing process – I will add an explanation as to why.
  • While Bruckheimer and the filmmakers wanted to bring Kilmer back, Cruise insisted on it. – "while" to me seems to imply a contrast, but these two clauses have the same supporting idea. Might rewrite to: Bruckheimer and the filmmakers wanted to bring Kilmer back, especially with Cruise's insistence.
  • Also another article revealed he wasn't interested. Maybe that can be added in the article.
  • because, as Bruckheimer put itbecause, according to Bruckheimer
  • Most work was done by Method Studios and MPC Film, though Lola VFX and Blind provided the 2D motion graphics, training visualizations, and the jet's head-up displays. – this sentence is uncited.
  • after his lines were cut from the film – might further clarify it was Jacinto's lines being cut.

More to come.--ZKang123 (talk) 04:51, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Music

[edit]
  • Top Gun composer Harold Faltermeyer reprised his role, being joined byTop Gun composer Harold Faltermeyer returned to compose the soundtrack and was joined by...

Marketing

[edit]
  • For the bracketed portion "the flag used by the government of the Republic of China based on the island of Taiwan", I rather make it a hatnote.
  • by Paramount, to engage "young-generation audiences" Remove comma
  • released on May 26, one day before the film's release Might consider the use of an en/em-dash and "a day" instead of "one day"

Release

[edit]
  • "due in part to" – partly due to
  • before finalizing the May 2022 release date This clause was left quite awkwardly because it's not clear who finalised the release date

Reception

[edit]
  • though still grossed $51.9 million I suppose this refers to Maverick and not Dominion.
  • In its 12th weekend the film I suggest a comma after "in its 12th weekend.
  • Some parts use single quotes such as: described the film as an 'eye-popping blockbuster' which 'manages to take your breath away'. Try to keep it consistent
  • "Spielberg himself also praised the film." – Might add what else he had said.
  • I was wondering where's the table of accolades then saw it's too long.
  • In June 2022, the family of Israeli author Ehud Yonay, who wrote the California article "Top Guns" in May 1983 that inspired the first film, sued Paramount for copyright infringement over the release of Top Gun: Maverick and sought damages as well as an injunction against the film's distribution This sentence is a bit too long. Might consider splitting to: In June 2022, the family of Israeli author Ehud Yonay, whose May 1983 California magazine article "Top Guns" inspired the original film, filed a lawsuit against Paramount. They accused the studio of copyright infringement related to the release of Top Gun: Maverick and sought both damages and an injunction to halt the film's distribution.

Sources

[edit]
  • The sources seem alright, spot-checks shows little problems. Mostly reliable sources and not using tabloid news. But a question: is "Deadline" the same as "Deadline Hollywood"?
  • However, I need to highlight a copyvio concern. Besides the quotations in the reception and writing, I'm highlighting the following:
    • facing toward the actors and two facing forward, in addition to cameras mounted all over the exteriors of the aircraft. – direct lifting
    • Manny Jacinto commented on his lines being cut from – Also similar concern

That's all I have. Putting on hold.--ZKang123 (talk)
