Military slang
[edit]Tonner is the German military slang term for "truck" or "lorry". It was derived by shortening long and cumbersome technical vehicle designations to just the weight class, as in Fünftonner (5-ton truck), Zehntonner (10-ton truck) etc. Possibly also in other languages, I don't know.
