Nationalities

[edit]

How about dropping the nationalities of all these people? It would remove the need for a lot of double checking (the Conrad Gessner article lists him as Swiss rather than German, for example) and the ever-confusing problem of whether "German" should link to Germany or Holy Roman Empire. Great idea. I have just done this. Most 19th century entomologists changed nationality several times in the course of their lives as the Napoleonic wars and then the tumult of the 1840s overwhelmed their birthplaces. Italy is another problematic country in this respect. Notafly 26 September 2005

Could someone fix the link voyages of exploration please? This is to French Wikipedia but is easily read. On my computer I get % and so on in the web address. Notafly 26 September 2005

Suggested merger

[edit]

On 29 December 2006 DreamGuy suggested that the various timelines of entomology be merged into a single Timeline of entomology. In making his edit DreamGuy said, "good lord, what a mess... split into separate articles for no reason, titles are capitalized wrong, tons of links to outside sites for no reason (& why link to french sites on English Wikipedia?!?!?!)". I note, in passing, the use of capitalized wrong for incorrectly capitalized and the variance of capitalizing English but not French when used as adjectives to distinguish among wikidedias. --Bejnar 15:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What, you're pissing and moaning about my EDIT COMMENTS not being perfect? Those aren't live in an article, those are to communicate with other editors. This is just a shoddy attempt to attack me personally instead of defend the articles. I mean, hell, you capitalized "Merger" in the topic heading above for no good reason, so you're one to talk. • The reason that the timeline of entomology was split up, on 19 October 2005, was that the article was deemed to be too long. My own belief is that that is still true. --Bejnar 15:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
These timelines go into such excruciating detail that most of it needs to be simply cut out as nonencyclopedic. There's no point in mentioning when someone who might later do something important was born, for example, as that's not important to the entomology itself. The whole thing is just a god-awful mess. This is an encyclopedic, not a book of trivia. Editors are here to edit, and when these ridiculously long passages are trimmed down to organized and informative encyclopedic content they should be able to be merged into one or two articles tops. DreamGuy 20:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Names of sciences are not proper names and not capitalized. This is just standard grammar here and everywhere. See biology, psychology, etc. for a million examples. DreamGuy 20:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Discussion of possible merger should be done on a single Talk page, in order to maximize participation. I will edit the other merge notices to direct here. --Bejnar 15:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. DreamGuy 20:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • It has been over two months, and no one else has weighed in on the discussion. If there is no objection, I will remove the merger request, as there is not a consensus. --Bejnar 02:29, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hearing tno objection, I have removed the merger request templates. --Bejnar 22:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
