Too many?

Money. For example, Hiroshige's 100 Famous Views of Edo was successful enough that it actually went to 120 or something like that, despite Hiroshige's death! It's just like Hollywood and sequels today. --Gwern (contribs) 03:25 25 November 2006 (GMT)

John Mayer

Wasn't this parodied on one of John Mayer's live albums? (As Is)

I'm sure it's been copied, parodied, used as inspiration, and otherwise made reference to in a gazillion different ways. Doesn't make a trivia section necessary. LordAmeth 14:46, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

If an individual image has been extensively copied, parodied, and so on, then a "Cultural references" section might be useful as a way of documenting and illustrating just how influential the image has been, after sufficient material has been collected ... but if so, that section would need to be added (with suitable restraint) to the wikipedia page for that individual image The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa (or, in extreme cases, as a separate offshoot wikipage), not to the "36 views ..." page. Fyi: The art from As/Is is by Kozyndan, and was originally created as a cover for the magazine Giant Robot (see issue). The image is called "Uprisings", and you can buy a print for $15 (which I did, and adore). :) -- Quiddity (talk) 17:45, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

1. If the work was conceived as a collection of 36 pieces, which of the pieces are the original 36?
2. The order of the lists for the English and the Japanese versions of this article do not match. Which is the correct/original order?

You can see the original order by clicking on each picture. The original number of the picture in the series is included in the description of each image.

For the first 36, here is the result of that. The wiki number is preceded by a # sign. If the original number of the picture in the series differs from the wiki number, it is shown in parentheses following the wiki #. If they are the same, it says "same". For the additional 10, there is a third number following the number in parentheses which is it original number of the additional 10. For example, number 37 shows #37 (39) 3, which means that the number in wiki is 37, the original number in the series overall is 39, and it is number 3 of the additional 10:

In 36 Views of Mount Fuji (Hokusai)#Additional 10, Image #3 needs to be checked. The description in the text does not match the file name, but possibly the image is right. See also Commons:Image talk:Nakahara in the Sagami province.jpg. Fg2 (talk) 08:31, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

You are correct. The name of the JPEG for the third image in the additional 10 would be appropriate for what is listed as the 4th image. However, the image for #3 is in fact correct for the description in the other columns. I would suspect that the original uploader was hasty and typed in the incorrect name when creating the JPEGs. Costa Concordia

How is it that "A collection of 300-year-old woodblock Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji prints contained in the wellness spa of the Costa Concordia was lost during the collision of the ship on January 13, 2012," if the oldest of the prints, created no earlier than 1826, was at most 186 years old, and the newest of the prints, created no later than 1833, was perhaps only 179 years old at the time of the sinking? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.168.135.149 (talk) 12:13, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Facsimile prints

Is there a reason for all these illustrations being reproductions when early examples exist? The colours are more subtle and subdued, but the original prints are far superior in my, and most commentators' opinion. Could do a side-by-side comparison for each print?
