Advertising?

[edit]

This is clearly an advertisement for a book and should be deleted, yes?

I do not see it as an ad. And it has several refs. Interesting stories anyway. History2007 (talk) 08:07, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is an interesting phenomenon, and the article has several examples given from history and literature. - Kzirkel (talk) 20:43, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Relevance of Jung's theories

[edit]

Shouldn't this article make reference to C.G Jung's metapsychology theories? The book by Geiger is notable only for ignoring them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.148.96.53 (talk) 03:15, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why the THIRD man?

[edit]

I have added this sentence in the Literary References section: "It is the reference to 'the third' in this poem that has given this phenomenon its name..." My source is the third entry under "Resources": "Guardian Angels or the Third Man factor".  I am not confident (1) to change a Resource into a reference, or (2) that it is a source of adequate weight. The resource entry says it is by "Reinhold Messner", but by my reading he is a climber and the last person quoted as experiencing the phenomenon. The source is by NPR "All Things Considered" and AFAICT by an anonymous journalist. Given all that, as soon as I started reading the article I wondered why it should be called "the THIRD man", and this seems a plausible explanation. 1.136.104.105 (talk) 18:41, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Neuromancer?

[edit]

Suggest adding the following to the Literary and film references section:

In William Gibson's 1984 novel Neuromancer, the main character Case calls up the figment of his bartender friend Ratz, who guides him the to safety of a beach bunker he had originally passed over, as well as providing his own perspective on Case's predicament. George Washington

[edit]

Didnt it also happen to George Washington (with some Native American Indian)? ~~Ed~~ 2607:FEA8:4A2:4100:FC8B:B8FB:6FF3:8B24 (talk) 06:35, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Photo Caption

[edit]

Why does the photo caption say “three” climbers instead of the obvious two that are in the photo? Is it for comedic relief? 2603:800C:2EF0:8190:A861:2F39:128:5D5F (talk) 03:23, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t know why it’s like that. Probably just a joke. I think it’d be a good idea to change it. Opportunity Rover (talk) 03:30, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
was the “three” in reference to there being a third mountain climber: the one taking the photo? 173.77.171.131 (talk) 15:25, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

[edit]

This is more a discussion than a formal page protection request, I have no idea how that Wikipedia policy works. This article has been vandalised many times to change the photo caption to being of three mountain climbers (when, unless you yourself are experiencing third man syndrome or you include the unseen cameraman, it clearly shows two). Funny and creative as far as vandalism goes, but maybe given the consistency of it and the fact that these changes have sometimes lasted for weeks the article should be semi-protected or similar? Thanks for any consideration or discussion 2A02:C7E:2F68:AC00:D59:113C:A901:E2BC (talk) 20:50, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
