'Canto edition'
[edit]What the hell is a 'Canto edition'? Are they the publishers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.87.10 (talk) 11:49, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- According to the pre-title page of ISBN 0-521-43776-8, "Canto is an imprint [of Cambridge University Press] offering a range of titles, classic and more recent, across a broad spectrum of subject areas and interests". AnonMoos (talk) 11:05, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
strange use of Lysenko quote in 1958 edition
[edit]The 1958 edition somewhat bizarrely includes a definition of heredity by Lysenko, quoted semi-approvingly without any indication that he was anything other than an ordinary respected scholar -- even though Lysenko had been discredited within the Soviet Union by 1954-1956 (though the final purging did not occur until 1964), and outside the Soviet Union by 1948-1949. It seems quite strange, unless Smith was trying to be more Stalinist than Khrushchev or something like that... AnonMoos (talk) 11:05, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
