Source: "E-mail the Powerpuff Girls"

Hi! I found: "E-mail the Powerpuff Girls" - Where somebody e-mailed the characters and the characters responded. I don't know how helpful of a source this will be, but anyway I thought I would share it WhisperToMe (talk) 14:23, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, all those links lead to the same page (for me) explaining what happened when Buttercup dated a boy. Paper Luigi TalkContributions 01:35, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Lauren Faust?

The article on Lauren Faust states "She is the creator of The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and has also worked on both of these shows... She has received four Emmy nominations (two for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and two for her work on the Powerpuff Girls)" This article does not mention Ms. Faust at all. Which is right?74.196.201.55 (talk) 08:49, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

According to IMDb, she was a director in 12 episodes of The Powerpuff Girls and storyboard artist in 6. These shows were created by Lauren's husband Craig McCracken. Enkidu6 (talk) 11:17, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Margaret Keane

There is a line that says the creator was inspired by Margaret Keane. Is there any verification/citation for this assertion?

According to Powerpuff Girls Anime Style! he was. — Glenn L (talk) 07:16, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Peer review

Here are the comments left by Bradley0110 at the peer review (not including this edit):

  • The lead currently doesn't summarize the article as it omits mention of Reception and Other media. "The series was been nominated for X Emmy Awards and Y Annie Awards during its run. Spin-off media include a feature film, an anime, as well as various licensed merchandise." should be suitable.
  • Overview section should come before History section to give the reader a grounding in what the article is about.
  • Please look through the prose of the article and pick out redundancies in the text; e.g. "The girls are frequently called upon by the town's childlike mayor, who will then request the girls to help fight nearby criminals using their powers." is fine without the italicized text.
  • The History section jumps around quite a lot and isn't focused on the things it should be; the broadcast of the pilot is in parentheses for some reason and mention of the animation studio is relegated to the penultimate sentence.
  • Did merchandising actually "encompass everything" or is this just hyperbole?
  • Moving on to the Overview section, the entire paragraph about the location of Townsville is unsourced and constitutes original research. I doubt there is much in the way of reliable third party text on this subject but if there is you could incorporate that. Likewise the sentence regarding the animation style and comparisons to other series is unsourced.
  • Characters section. Big pool of OR. It's very difficult to describe a fictional character's personality traits using episodes directly because there is always the chance of running into synthesis, e.g. "She is often seen as the most mature, level-headed, and composed member of the group, although she can at times be fussy, overbearing, petty, and too analytical." Are there any descriptions of the characters in reliable sources? Does the creator talk about their personalities at all?
  • Reception is scant on the reviews, most likely these two were all that could be found on Google? If so, you could try asking at WT:TV if anyone has access to Newsbank or a similar database. Some further reviews may turn up. Nice work with the awards table. This should be sortable per WP:ACCESS and the years should have their own column.
  • Other media: The last sentence of the anime section is unsourced and contains a time-dependent word ("currently" - is that currently now or currently six months ago?) and the Film section is unsourced.

When all of these problems are taken care of, the article can be GA-nominated. I'll do what I can as far as sentence structure and reference-finding, but I doubt I'll make any big edits until sometime next week. If anyone wants to tackle a few of these issues until then, feel free to. Paper Luigi TC 20:35, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Well I took out the part about the location of townsville. As for the character info, the wayback machine might be good to look into cartoon network's description of the characters as the page has been changed multiple times. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 23:23, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
I knocked out a few more of these. Paper Luigi TC 21:31, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Music CD's article?

Looking over the article the Music CD's just seem to stick out like a sore thumb, do we really need the hugs info boxes that list the songs on the mainpage here? I think an article should be made that covers the music from the powerpuff girls as there is not just one music CD here and if sources can be found on reception and such could be a good article as well. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 14:33, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

The music article would be an easy split, and it would doubtlessly decrease the workload for making this a GA nominee. What would it be called, though? Paper Luigi TC 23:13, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Done I have made an article titled List of Powerpuff Girls soundtracks, and is now a well referenced article, I cant say the same about the section here though, it needs work. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:49, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

I have nominated Talk:The Powerpuff Girls/to do for deletion at WP:MFD. Please comment here for any concerns. Thank you for your time. Regards, JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 05:52, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Media section is too small

I recently tagged the media section as needing expansion so my thoughts for improvement are:

Please post your feedback - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 21:52, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Regarding point #1, the game article needs serious expansion; it currently doesn't even mention half of the games. I wouldn't want to merge the two because it'll eventually become too large of a section and need to be split off anyway. As for point #2, I'm all for it. Paper Luigi TC 22:13, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay for point #1, I do feel though at least some mention should be added to the main page about the games rather than just a link under the section. As for the movie section I will work on that then. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 22:18, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
I also agree about the games section. Maybe a paragraph could be added that lists all the games. Paper Luigi TC 22:52, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

The article seems to have no problems. The reception section is sorta thin, but that's understandable, as I noticed some Cartoon Network originals have little reception on them (I know, since I recently made Ed, Edd n Eddy a GA). So, congrats, it's a Pass! :) --Khanassassin 16:37, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks to all the editors who helped make this possible. =) Yeah the reception is sort of thin, I looked alot through google and such and while alot was on The powerpuff Girls Movie, not much was for the series. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 17:37, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Stylization as THE POWERPUFF GǐRLS

This is how the logo is stylized, so can we specify that on the article? Faster than Thunder (talk) 05:32, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

New TV series

Earlier today they just announced a new Powerpuff Girls series with Craig McCracken working on it, and it's being made by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. So why isn't it mentioned on the article? 98.165.84.45 (talk) 00:34, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Splitting proposal

I propose that this article shall be split into two articles, one for the TV series (kept at this name) and another for the larger franchise named Powerpuff Girls (franchise). ★Trekker (talk) 16:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

I agree with the proposal. PPG was huge for Cartoon Network in the '90s and has expanded into other series, video games, a feature film, toys, etc. It just makes sense to me at this time to split off a franchise article. — Paper Luigi TC 19:21, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Make a draft first on how it would look as I don't think much can be split off. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 05:16, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I've began a draft Draft:Powerpuff Girls (franchise).★Trekker (talk) 16:44, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
I also made a draft for the new animated TV series. Draft:Untitled Powerpuff Girls animated series.★Trekker (talk) 16:53, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
The drafts are devoid of any real content except for section outlines. I am interested in adding content to these when I get enough free time. That being said, I was expecting to see more from the draft author as these haven't been touched for six days. — Paper Luigi TC 03:05, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Agreed, I also still don't think much can be split off from the main articles to warrant a separate article. Yes toys were made and merchandise was sold, but you have to show how this had a notable impact in paragraph form that couldn't easily be fit here. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 03:52, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
@Paper Luigi: Sorry I'm busy with other stuff, this isn't a priority right now and I don't see there being any hurry.★Trekker (talk) 06:49, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
I don't see why there should be another article covering the franchise, as the current one based on the 1998 series covers all the significant information just fine, including derivative works. Yes, there have been countless books, and toys, and all sorts of merchandise, but those pertain to a particular iteration of the show which already has an article of its own, already expanding on those details. Not to mention there are lists of videogames, characters and soundtracks, so wouldn't another article be reiterative?. A Disambiguation page would suffice, if anything. JBOOK17 (talk) 03:08, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
I don't see why a franchise should be shoved into the article of its original media, it seems almost like undue weight to have this much info on all the other media in this article. Personally I would rather merge the video game and soundtrack lists into a franchise article. Earlier today an IP created an article for the series here The Powerpuff Girls (franchise), I plan on expanding that today.★Trekker (talk) 10:55, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
I don't think its fair to blame the original series for that. Powerpuff Girls Z had their own separate media which is nicely fit into the article's body. The 2006 series also had its own media which is mentioned in article. Trying to compare media in my view is opinionated as each series had their own reception and either succeeded or failed more than the other. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 13:07, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
I'm not blaming anything.★Trekker (talk) 13:16, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Seeing the article created by the IP, I think it proves one of my points. There you have tons of information that fits perfectly in the one covering the 1998 series. The specials, for example, pertain to that version, as well as many of the comic books, videogames, bumpers and whatnot (which, btw, feel like trivia sections). Should the article remain when there was no consensus about its creation? Also, I'm pretty sure this is not the first time that some user has tried to creat a "franchise" article for the Powerpuff Girls. There should also be a consensus for the merging of the soundtrack and videogame lists with the frachise article(to which I strongly disagree, it would make it all unnecessarily convoluted). JBOOK17 (talk) 20:19, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
Well I have to say I disagree with pretty much everything here, I don't think its convoluted to have a franchise article and let an article about a TV show be an article about a TV show instead of an overstuffed pseudo-franchise article. I also don't see the point at all in having this exist, its not even a list, it only "lists" 3 items.★Trekker (talk) 20:39, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
Those 3 items are complementary to the 1998 series, but they'd make the main article too long, so they compose that list instead. Having them in a "fanchise" article would generate the same issue. The list works perfectly fine. Now, to call it "pseudo-franchise" is very wrong. The original series creates its own derivative works. So does the 2016 reboot, and PPG Z, and the movie... and virtually every other iteration that could exist. That's why I'll reiterate my initial point: having another PPG article would serve nothing that the existent articles already accomplish on their own. JBOOK17 (talk) 00:16, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
It does not remotly create the same issue, and the list does not "work perfectly fine", its how lists are supposed to work on Wikipedia. The fact that you're admiting that if all the other spin-off media that you think should be in this article doesn't actually fit since it makes it too big is exactly why a franchise article is needed.★Trekker (talk) 00:23, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
I can only agree to disagree with you over those points, all around. Hopefully more users will join this thread. JBOOK17 (talk) 00:41, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
