Title
[edit]I just want to point out that the title of the book is not The Playboy: A Comic Book, but just The Playboy. On the cover it says The Playboy in one corner and a comic book by Chester Brown in another, which I think is the source of confusion. On the spine and inside the book it is only referred to as The Playboy. CüRlyTüRkeyTalkConTribs 09:58, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

- It actually is, because this gives additional information that is not "Angelo-centric", but I would simply list the translations and the books themselves with ISBNs over a link to the actual product pages if you are worried about this. Some editors may think foreign language materials are not "notable" or "relevant", but I have always disagreed that translating and republishing a work in such a fashion is inherently worthy of mention. - I wasn't thinking so much in terms of notability—I was thinking more that it may constitute WP:OR. It's not a list any third-party source gives, nor do we have any idea if the list is complete (it's simply what I managed to track down). Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 11:41, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Differences between 1992 edition and 2013 edition
[edit]I have read the 2013 French version of The Playboy. By reading this article, it seems there are few differences with 1992 version of the story.
Here are the 3 differences I noticed :
- "The free, organic arrangement of odd-shaped panels of simple, expressive artwork contrasts with Brown's more detailed grid-like pages in his 1980s work." There are no odd-shapped panels in the main parts of this book. The panels are regular shapped.
- "The narrator talks about Brown in the third person in the adolescent parts of the story, but in the first person in Brown's adult years." In my book the narrator talk only in the first person in the whole story.
- "he preferred masturbation to having sex with her." Brown have removed the panel relating that he preferred masturbation to having sex with women from the story and added a note in the last part of the book telling his preference for masturbation in no longer true.
I have not read the 1992 and 2013 original editions of The Playboy and my knowledge of English is not good enough to edit the article. Groulix59 (talk) 13:33, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- I have the 2013, 1992, and original Yummy Fur versions of The Playboy. The differences between all three are quite siginificant. Unfortunately, there is remarkably little in acceptable sources detailing these differences. I'm sure that will change some day, but without appropriate sources, we can't add discussion of these details to the article. Curly Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 00:07, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Cover photo MUST be wrong!!
[edit]It's horrible. How could that happen here on Wikipedia? And even worse, it was in my face when I opened the app today in Featured article. I googled quickly and saw another image as the cover. I hope someone changes it quickly! Peze80 (talk) 08:55, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- I also noticed this very ugly image this morning when opening the android app. Interestingly, the Wikipedia homepage does NOT have this image, but has a normal image of (presumably) the author of the book. So the image for "The Playboy" on the Mobile-app start page is different. Going to the mobile wikipedia page (for english: https://en.m.wiki.x.io/wiki/Main_Page) also has the "normal" image of the author. I've spent a small amount of time trying to determine the origin of this changed image, which persists on the start page of the android mobile app. My version of the app is 2.7.50443. - (Replying to myself) The "goatse" image disappeared after I force-stopped the app and then cleared all its storage. The re-loaded page shows the cover of the "Playboy" book, from the "The Playboy" article, so someone did a repair, but the goatse photo remains in the cache of app-users. Notably, the Wikipedia Main_Page shows a picture of the author Chester Brown, not the cover-photo which is shown on the android-app start-page. Mcvoorhis (talk) 11:16, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Have only ever seen the cover photo image on my android and PC devices Pr3ttyFly45 (talk) 01:17, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

[edit]vandalism I guess, but as the featured article it's kinda very disturbing 2A01:CB09:E049:4F1F:0:5F:80AD:5D01 (talk) 08:57, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- @2A01:CB09:E049:4F1F:0:5F:80AD:5D01 It was very disturbing. I work in a school and opened Wikipedia to search for something for a student and had to quickly hide my phone! Luckily it has been fixed now. Peze80 (talk) 12:12, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Article is being vandalised to hell after being linked on front page. Could this be put under semi-protection at least? Compoteleon (talk) 10:51, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
