We very frequently find MALL roads in cantonments. The historical reason is that MALL road was a division between married accommodation and living lines. So on one side, there used to be military units living lines along with administrative areas. On the other side, it used to be married accommodation for British Officers and troops. Dotted with bungalows and messes on the eastern side and lines on the western side. Indian troops were not allowed to cross the MALL road. That is why it was called MALL road since it stood for Married Accommodation and Living Lines road.
