Member information

[edit]

For the citations, every member's blood type, birthday, birth place and tobacco brand can easily be found on the official Gazette site. 24.83.197.139 07:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Profiling information on each member would be considered trivial (see WP:TRIVIA). This information is more of a fun thing for fans, not something that belongs in an encyclopedia. I must say, I doubt the brand of cigarettes the members smoke has any impact on the band. --Jacob Talk 16:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The constant editing of Uruha has Lead guitar and Aoi as Rhythm Guitar is false, although these are their initial roles , Both Uruha and Aoi now play music that goes back and forth between lead and rhythm , to label them as one or the other is just false. 101.116.106.181 (talk) 06:18, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Genre

[edit]

They sound Punk Metal so I've decided to add that to the genres. It should be known that Visual Kei is a fashion style and subculture and is not related to the music's genre. Stating only Visual Kei as this band's genre is not appropriate.

Please give us examples why so. The genre will be removed for now. I never really listened to them in a while but I consider them as alternative metal and hard rock (it seems a bit obvious). Maybe metalcore but this is from a person who listened to them. NaotoATG 06:28, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mess

[edit]

This whole article is like one big mess. There's way too much info on each band member. It sounds like a fanboy wrote it. Can someone clean it up a bit? --DevilSavior 04:23, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter because maybe some people are trying to research them for their japanese idol project like what my class is doing. I'm not doing that project but say if someone wants to know, they can conviently check it here. Wikipedia is allowed to provide any extra information known so let it be. —The preceding unsigned comment was signed as ice1242004 but was actually added by 220.239.197.220 (talkcontribs) 09:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC). --[reply]

Official name?

[edit]

According to the official site, their new name is not 'The Gazette' but 'the GazettE'. Should this be changed?--Landa 01:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The name should stay as 'The Gazette' since the "official" way of mentioning them doesn't have actual importance but just there for cosmetic purposes. Please see WP:MOSCL and WP:MOSTM for more information. AKnot 00:43, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I feel that the list of external links is extensive. Some of the fansite links should be taken off since they don't provide extensive information or they're basically the same as the other fansites listed. 71.131.202.17 22:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fansites don't tend to comply with WP:EL; I took a peek, and it looks like most of them could probably be removed. I'll go through them in a sec, if no one minds. Lithiumflower 23:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Band Line-Up?

[edit]

I was wondering how come there's no band line-up for this article as it is not detailed or mentioned anywhere generally in the article either... 196.2.113.79 (talk) 19:58, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reitsu[reply]

Band line-up and genres

[edit]

There is no listing of a band line-up anywhere in the article. Also from listening to the GazettE for awhile now I can safely say that for their genres, it should say Funk Rock, Hard Rock and Nu Metal. As considering their music almost always has a funk feel to it, and considering that I think they fit the Nu Metal genre perfectly, because they sometimes mix Hip-Hop and Rap elements in their music, along with Metal music. Which would follow under Nu Metal...I added those genres now. Kuro Banpaia (talk) 02:32, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with nu metal, and that should be kept, but please attempt to find a source that explains them as a "nu metal" band explicitly. As far as funk goes, I see very little funk elements in their music. I've sample much of their catalog just now to listen, but there is barely any occurrence of what would be considered funk. It's nice to get some of these Japanese bands limited down to a real genre, but sourcing can be the tricky part. Japanese bands also tend to more freely suspend themselves between multiple genres. As far as the band line-up goes, I suppose it's just been overlooked, thanks for the tip! --Jacob Talk 19:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Funk Rock

[edit]

Well, I really do see some of their songs that have a funk rock feel to it, like the songs Manaatatakai Ame to Zaratsuita Jyounetsu, Silly God Disco, Shadow VI II I and more I can't remember. And their new album Stacked Rubbish has some songs that have rapping, and have funk elements. I just think funk rock, totally describes their uses of some rap rock, and sometimes hip-hop... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuro Banpaia (talkcontribs) 03:11, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would say if anything, the terms rap rock and nu metal do enough to cover what you are talking about, as the songs you mention don't really have a strong, twangy bass line with lots of groovy cymbal work. The funk feel has to be conveyed stronger instrumentally, whereas the vocal stuff will push on the nu metal side. --Jacob Talk 03:20, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genre

[edit]

it looks like you guys have been doing everything constructively but up until the genre, it seems to be all original research. look up official sites, and everything that proves all the genre's you placed. but it has to be a reviewer in music or there own official site. Reorganization of the article

[edit]

As it stands, the article is messy and lacking in actual references. I'll probably be cleaning it up in the next few weeks, but it'd be helpful if anyone could tell me about specific news websites (non-fanmade) that mention the Gazette and/or their achievements, as I'm sort of new to this group. I'm looking to consolidate most of the biography as it's getting a little out of hand, and separate other activities (endorsements, other stuff - if any) into a different section. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone could translate Japanese news articles.

Plans for organizing the article (sorry if this is a little hard to understand - I'm just brainstorming)

  • Combine their indie years (2002 - 2004? Was Disorder released under PSC?) into one section, titled something like "Formation and early years" (not really sure at the moment)
  • Maybe separate the other sections by album (e.g. 2006: Nil + major achievement in that period; 2007-2008: Stacked Rubbish + major achievement in that period; 2009-: DIM). Any input about the placement of Nameless Liberty Six Bullets? It's supposedly a return of the band to their roots, but... "better". Does it deserve a new section or can it be added to the 2009 sections (i.e. naming it "DIM and Nameless Liberty 02"... or something).
  • Add more to the lead-in: summary of singles, albums, other major achievements e.g. placement on Oricon. Isn't this band supposed to be pretty influential (btw anyone have any info on the "neo visual kei" movement that the Gazette supposedly started)?
  • Can't think of anything else, so this is a placeholder. Creation of a separate discography page. Speaking of which, the individual album/single pages are... =.=... but I guess that'll be for another time.....

That's about it for now. I'll be back |D

Genres revisited

[edit]

After watching this article for sometime it seems it is a victim of fans labeling one or two songs a genre and then claiming that means the band is that genre. This is not how we determine a band's genre on Wikipedia, we use reliable sources. But there are no sources in the article that speak of the band's genre. This problem is perpetuated by the completely unsourced Musical style section, that lists a ridiculous amount of genres because of the reason stated in my first sentence. Per Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre we have to "aim for generality", this means the band's genre is the genre that the bulk of their music is, not a complete list of genres that they dabbled in, as it currently sits. Therefore I think we should have a grace period for editors to look and find reliable sources for the genre claims, if none are added we have no choice but to completely remove the Musical style section and be as general as possible with the genres; Rock and heavy metal. Xfansd (talk) 17:50, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Genres

[edit]

I consider to add seven genres. I suggest: Alternative metal, nu metal, hard rock, progressive rock, punk rock, funk rock, metalcore.

I didn't add pop rock, experimental rock, experimental metal, industrial metal and other genre, because they play few songs based on these genres and Template:Infobox musical artist states it should "aim for generality". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.27.72.230 (talk) 01:34, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you find reliable sources to support those genres then sure. But until then it must stay as is. Xfansd (talk) 01:41, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But the genres added don't have reliable sources too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.59.97.172 (talk) 18:29, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed they do not, but do you think no genres at all would be better? I tried to compromise. Xfansd (talk) 18:34, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Rateyourmusic.com relies on user generated content therefore not a reliable source. As far as I can find iTunes is only used as a source for track lists, track lengths and stuff like that, but either way it doesn't mention progressive rock or punk rock anywhere like you claimed. Please read Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources and related articles, also it would be better if you posted here the sources you want to use before adding it to the article. Reita should be labeled as an eternal memeber, he didn't leave the band. Yes, he passed but he will always be a memeber. The other memebers themselves said that, please change this. thank you Juviaaaa (talk) 15:04, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Past members

[edit]

Please, I'm asking you to undo the change about putting Reita as their "past member", because he is part of the band and he never left, unlike Yune. Many consider this truly disrespectful, as he's now considered an eternal member and they have always been, and will always be, a group of 5. 181.43.90.203 (talk) 15:17, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hey hi even the band members agreed that reita is in the band forever if you didnt know so he is not a past member but actual member with others its really rude because the band members agreed he is still active in band after his passing please change it to "eternal member reita" or you will enrage a lot of fans because it seems you dont care about band statement please and thank you for understanding 31.30.174.10 (talk) 18:04, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's not that they're rude or don't care, but when a band member is deceased they always go under "past members" regardless of what the band says, I believe it's the policy of the site. I'm a fan too but people are constantly breaking policy on the article which is why it's protected right now 2603:6080:AD40:E7:1136:E955:9371:A6C2 (talk) 20:49, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eternal Member

[edit]

Remove Reita from the "Past members" section and add him back to the "Members" section as an eternal member. That's were he should be. He died yes, but he never left. It's disrespectful as even the members stated they will always be a group of five 2003:E6:F725:BB00:F8EC:B859:8273:F858 (talk) 18:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Death of Reita and supposed "eternal membership"

[edit]

Starting this thread as a centralised discussion for the issue to reach consensus, or at least have something to refer back to when reverting disruption.

Based on the sources I have seen, I don't see any explicit mention of Reita being declared an "eternal member" (there might be something if I read between the lines of the statements of the band members, as translated in this jrock news article, but thats probably WP:SYNTH). Even if there was such an official statement or general agreement among reliable sources, there is still concern about how this information should be presented in accordance with MOS:EUPHEMISM. In general, I would support the status quo, and possibly add a brief mention of this eternal membership in the body text if sources emerge for it.

@Seelentau: sorry to drag you back in here, but your input would be welcome since you were the "first responder" to this situation and I think you probably have more experience in this field than me. I'll also keep an eye on this page in case of further disruption after the protection expires. Liu1126 (talk) 01:19, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I also hope to be able to use this discussion as something to refer back to for future issues of the same kind, as claiming dead members to still be a "part of the band" is something that fans of Japanese bands tend to try to literalize; Buck-Tick is another recent example that I've been dealing with recently. Like Liu said, at the moment there's nothing to suggest The Gazette claims Reita as an "eternal member". But even if they do, this is an encyclopedia and we should treat statements made by bands claiming a dead person "will always be a member", or anything similar, as nothing more than the nice sentiments they are. I don't think anyone can object to including such comments in prose (X Japan) or as notes (Malice_Mizer#Members), but we simply can not list dead people as current members of an active band. I personally see MOS:BLPTENSE and WP:COMMONSENSE as showing us this. Xfansd (talk) 04:13, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for trying to settle this peacefully. Unfortunately, based on the Twitter comments by people that made the disruptive edits, I fear that it won't go down as peacefully as we'd all like.
That said, as nice of a gesture the whole "eternal member" schtick is, Wikipedia simply doesn't operate on such terminology. Especially in this case, where it came from the Twitter fans I mentioned. They also added it to this band's page in other wikis. Not even the Japanese wiki works like that, seeing as how hide and Taiji are both not listed in the infobox of X JAPAN, despite them actually officially being pronounced as eternal members. They're also placed in the "former members" section of the main body, with a note mentioning their "eternal member" status.
Side note: the more recently deceased HEATH is still listed as a member in the infobox and main body. So it might have to do with the activity status, as this is also the case for Linkin Park and Chester Bennington. Both bands have yet to release new music or show any substantial signs of activity since the passing of HEATH and Bennington, respectively. RUKI is also listed as a current member on Japanese wikipedia (I prematurely changed it a while ago, but reverted my edit).
Anyway, that's the case for the Japanese wiki. In the English wiki, Bennington is listed as a past member, hide and Taiji are listed as past members, and I see no reason why the same shouldn't be done for RUKI. Yes, fans are hurting, yes, they might find it disrespectful, but that's simply not Wikipedia's concern. As someone else on Twitter put it, this is supposed to be "an objective, unbiased article of the GazettE. As tragic as the scenario is, any band that member passes away, even if there's some sort of dedication, is still considered a past member objectively."
