[edit]

I grew up in St. Vincent, Minnesota, which was in the most northwestern corner of Minnesota right by the border of North Dakota and Manitoba. The CBC was one of our only TV stations when I was young. "The Friendly Giant" was one of the few programs for children I was able to view. I have never forgotten the opening and closing of the show, and each day was excited as the camera panned up to show the giant "...waaaaaay up!" I can still hear Rusty and Jerome's voices, and remember the gentle, sweet, and funny banter between all the characters...--Trish Lewis

Midnight airing

[edit]

Can anyone substantiate in print, other than from my personal memory as a child watching it, that sometimes CBC Vancouver would run the show immediately after the Canadian anthem at midnight? This was late 70's early 80's — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.34.128.118 (talk) 03:44, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted statement

[edit]

I deleted the following unsourced statement: "The show's replacement, Fred Penner's Place, has been referred to by some people as "the Giant Killer"." We can't have a statement like that in the article without attribution. If a source can be found, please feel free to put the statement back (with the source cited). 23skidoo 21:26, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fond Childhood Memories

[edit]

I recently heard an instrumental of Early One Morning, & I remembered the show.

I grew up in Madison, & watched the show on WHA-TV when I was a little boy. It came on right before Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

I remember the miniature village, & the doll furniture by the little fireplace. I loved the stories, & how he & Jerome & Rusty would joke around. He was so kind & gentle.

They canceled the show on WHA to make room for Sesame Street. Unfortunate that they couldn't make room for both shows, but I'm glad that it had such a successful run in Canada.

This article brought back some very fond memories! Scott S 15:45, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Train set

[edit]

I just deleted the statement about the train set being on display at the Pump House museum in Kingston because when I was younger and used to watch this show I can recall nothing of there ever being a train set appearing. Also the statement is unsourced and I checked the website for the museum as well but no result (if the set were there it would have mentioned). Also it does not make sense that they would have a TV set material on display at a museum on municipal services. If someone can prove there was a set and it has been seen at the museum I will re-add it. trainfan01 18:40 4 May 2010 —Preceding undated comment added 01:43, 5 May 2010 (UTC).[reply]

I have been to the Pump House Museum several times, and can confidently assert that the train is on prominent display and clearly labelled as such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.193.128.193 (talk) 14:59, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is also clearly mentioned on the museum's website " The exhibit also has two model trains sets; an elaborate ‘O’ scale that has many different levels of tracks, bridges and intricate mini details, and the HO scale train set shown in the intro of the long running CBC show, The Friendly Giant" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.193.128.193 (talk) 15:01, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have typed in your description via a Google search but there are no results. If no one can come up with any supporting evidence for this set on display it will be considered false and remain deleted. trainfan01

Oh for God's sake. There's the official City Of Kingston press release for the Museum: http://www.cityofkingston.ca/cityhall/press/release.asp?mode=show&id=1821 Note the part that says " and several model trains sets, including the famous Jechel zero-gauge working model train and the Friendly Giant train". Here's the front page of the Steamhouse Museum: http://www.steammuseum.ca/index.php?page=commonpages&applytopage=events&eventdate=2010-06-29 Not the blue "What's New" box where it again specifies that the Friendly Giant's train is that the museum. Here's the Kingston and Frontenac Public Library's page about the Pump House Museum, repeating the assertion: http://kingston.cioc.ca/record/KGN1196?Number=13 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.193.128.193 (talk) 09:12, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And here is the page for the Model Railway Society (the current possessor of the train set) exhibits at the Pump House Museum, where the quote I previously posted from: http://www.steammuseum.ca/index.php? page=commonpages&applytopage=model And if you look at the top photo on the green table, you will actually SEE the train in question: http://www.steammuseum.ca/index.php?page=commonpages&applytopage=newexhibits —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.193.128.193 (talk) 09:21, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've got it now it can be kept. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 16:30, 20 June 2010 (UTC).[reply]

I have now added the website source of it to the refrences, but the page failed to fully load. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 16:42, 20 June 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for adding the citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.193.128.193 (talk) 01:35, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But unfortunately I have clicked on the citation now and the page won't fully load (it freezes before the words and images upload). However I click on the new exhibits tag on the page and then the exhibit's page does load completely. Can someone fix this? trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 01:47, 21 June 2010 (UTC).[reply]

The citation is still getting this problem. Fix it soon or it will be deleted. trainfan01

Now it is sorted it. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 03:11, 1 July 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Episodes

[edit]

If someone is really keen, CBC's Archive Sales website has episodes with air dates and descriptions. You just need to search through them all. [1] Seanpaulk (talk) 05:01, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
