[edit]Anyone knows what this song and its metaphors are supposed to actually mean? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.241.39 (talk) 00:44, 9 February 2007
No clue. Sounds like some sort of fantasy-setting poetry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.253.36.46 (talk) 04:12, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- The verses are of course open to wide interpretation; but in broad terms, we are presented with scenes observed by the unnamed narrator as he proceeds through a grand, cruel and politically mismanaged imperial court. The various self-serving courtiers in coloured motley are everywhere; the Crimson King himself is nowhere. An absent or ineffectual ruler in the control of a cabal of puppetmasters, given the date of composition and the title of the beleaguered potentate, strongly suggests the moribund General Secretary of the Soviet Union, notionally all-powerful, but actually powerless in the hands of the manipulative Politburo.

Cover versions + title confusion
[edit]There needs to be a comprehensive list of cover versions of this song. Also a mention that unlike the album from which the original version comes, the song is not prefixed by "In". Lee M (talk) 20:57, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
