Compromise of customer Social Security Numbers during 2-year breach.

[edit]

Here's some add'l evidence regarding the compromise of customer Social Security Numbers during 2-year breach.

I'm adding it because a Wikipedia editor, who I believe is a TD Ameritrade ISS, has been censoring1 this article, so I want to provide strong evidence.

Legal disclosure letters TD Ameritrade sent to government officials2 3, on the one hand, (as well as the FAQ it placed on its website)archive)) state that the SSNs were compromised. Consider the definition of the word "compromise" which is "exposure to danger"; the statement is proven. Be sure to review BOTH letters in the above PDFs and compare them; one was sent to former TD Waterhouse clients, the other to former Ameritrade clients. (The firms merged to become TD Ameritrade.)

There are brilliantly written Press Releases, on the other hand, that appear to be designed to lead the reader to the conclusion that the SSNs were not stolen, but they do so without making the claim.

Here are reasonably parsed statements, which lead to a very different conclusion: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/15/ameritrade_database_burgled/ has several quotes from a TD Ameritrade spokeswoman (emphasis is mine):

The spokeswoman, Kim Hillyer, did clarify that company officials have been able to determine that social security numbers and other sensitive information belonging to TD Waterhouse clients prior to its acquisition by Ameritrade were not retrieved. That's because the merging of the two companies' backend systems wasn't completed until recently, she said.

"Through our investigation, we've been able to see a little more what the code actually did," she said. "We can conclude because of our intelligence that the TD Waterhouse information was never accessed."

However, the company can make no assurances as to whether or not sensitive information belonging to the company's remaining clients was accessed.

"We've been doing investigations and through that we have no evidence that (sensitive) information was taken for our other clients," Hillyer said. "We can't say we definitely know."

Note the all-important difference: "TD Waterhouse", not "TD Ameritrade". In other words, Hillyer doesn't know about the Ameritrade customers' info, just the TD Waterhouse customers' info.

Also, note that Hillyer's statement "We've been doing investigations and through that we have no evidence that (sensitive) information was taken for our other clients," is no longer true. They have evidence of more than one case of ID theft linked to the TD Ameritrade breach. I just don't have a citeable source for that or other non-public info that I have, which I therefore haven't added.

Article is a complete WP:COATRACK, and not at all neutrally written. Whole sections make accusations without a single cite. Smacks very much of plaintiff-lawyer advertising. WP:MOS not followed. THF (talk) 00:24, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto Dominion?

[edit]

There appears to be a concerted effort to suppress the fact that the ultimate parent company is Toronto-Dominion Bank. There is no mention what so ever of Toronto-Dominion being the controlling interest in through its holding company TD Bank Group? Seems a little odd to be that there is no links, refs or see also for Toronto-Dominion. 108.172.115.8 (talk) 00:29, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is because Americans don't like to show when their power interests (like money) isn't always theirs. 24.141.168.108 (talk) 19:56, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fix category sort key

[edit]

In section External links, categorization into Category:Electronic trading platforms should not have the sort key " " (space), which is reserved for the main articles in a category. —andrybak (talk) 08:45, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
