German? Swedish? - No, Old Norse
[edit]Sven is not an "Old German" name. It is a scandinavian name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.58.37.47 (talk) 14:15, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes and No. The language from which the name originated is Old Norse. It is a Germanic name, as most of Scandinavia, Germany and England is hisotrically Germanic terriotiry and most languages in this area such as German, Dutch, Swedish, and English are Germanic languages that are all related.
“ | Old Norse was mutually intelligible with Old English, Old Saxon and Old Low Franconian. It gradually evolved into the modern North Germanic languages: Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish. | ” |
- In short, its a nordic name, stemming from an ancient Germanic language and is now commonly found throughout Germany, the Benelux, Switzerland, Austria and Scandinavia. See the Old Norse article for further information. Best Regards, Signaturebrendel 21:39, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Pewdiepie’s dog Sven
[edit]Guys they don’t want Sven added here so please stop adding him to this page. I’d also like to apologize for when I originally added him to this page. InfinityMastered (talk) 00:36, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Not Scandanavian variant of Stephen/Steven
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- Specific text to be added or removed: The name can also be a Scandinavian variant of Stephen / Steven.
- Reason for the change: This is simply untrue. Stephen/Steven is of Greek origin, derived from Stephanos, and meaning wreath or crown. Sven is an Old Norse name meaning young man or young warrior. They are completely unrelated. The Scandinavian variation of Stephen/Steven is Stefan. Stefan and Stephen/Steven share the same origin and have the same meaning.

- Done References 2 & 3 did not support a link of the two names. The websites on name "Sven" doesn't support a link either. The claim in the Wikipedia article is unsourced. So, I have made the requested changes as requested. Thank you! —CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {C•X}) 07:09, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
