According to the article Oldest football clubs, Surbiton was a rugby football club and not an association football club as stated by this article. This is backed up by the following reference from British History Online. Indeed, if I am reading this reference correctly, Surbiton attended the inaugural meeting which formed the Football Association, but then did not join it because hacking was not allowed within the rules drawn up. So the club appears to have been one of the founders of the Football Association, but not a 'founder-member'. Coyets (talk) 17:17, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
