Merger proposal

[edit]

I suggest the article 2020 United States essential workers general strike be merged into this article, Strikes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The article I propose for merging describes a single event on May 1, which was actually more of a sickout than a "general strike"; a general strike would have included most or all employees and would have virtually shut down the companies, which didn’t happen. Oddly, that article includes virtually no reporting on the "strike" itself: no listing of cities where it happened or description of events connected with it, nothing about the effect on the companies, except for Amazon’s denial that it impacted the company’s functioning. The reference list for the May 1 article shows that the event received some publicity at the time but virtually no followup, so it hasn’t passed the test of time as being of historic importance; it was more of a one-day wonder. Information about it would be better accommodated in the overall article about such strikes, where it would be placed in context. The overall article already has already a section on multiple Amazon strikes, but just a sentence about the one on May 1; it would benefit by a merger from the May 1 article. -- MelanieN (talk) 16:15, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Support That was a one-day thing, it can certainly be covered in the main article. Reywas92Talk 05:44, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
