Purpose
[edit]This page is intended to be a mirror of States, giving a click map for the old German Empire. I will create one for Weimar Germany later on. --JamesR1701E (talk) 18:56, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Two quick points :
- 1) The map is completely wrong. As you say it is a map pre-1919 and has an overlay of post 1990 states. But as you say, oyu will correct this.
- 2) Will the article end up containing anything except the map. Because if it won't it will very likely be deleted or merged back into the original article. Passportguy (talk) 19:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Could you point out the areas that are incorrect with respect to 1871-1918 Germany? I'm doing a side-by-side of the svg and this map, and they look pretty much the same. I'm getting the placement correct, and will expand out to detail Prussia and its constituents, and the other states as well. I just started working on it, so give me a little bit of time to get it right! :) --JamesR1701E (talk) 20:05, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- As you now seem to have corrcted the map, it is fine. Passportguy (talk) 20:24, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- However you might want to choose a different colour for Prussia, asn the names of the provinces are very hard to read. Passportguy (talk) 20:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. I'm thinking various shades of gold, as blue would blend in for the hyperlinks a bit too much. Or possibly a lighter green... --JamesR1701E (talk) 20:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Maps
[edit]Larger versiond of the maps would be a blessing to those of us with bad eyes. Much of the writing on them is unreadable for me (and I'm viewing it through 250% magnification glasses)Saintonge235 (talk) 12:09, 23 December 2021 (UTC).
States
[edit]Did I get them all? I know Lippe and Schaumberg-Lippe need to be added, but anything else? --JamesR1701E (talk) 21:38, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think Waldeck is also missing Passportguy (talk) 22:19, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Another quick note
[edit]Just a quick note before you continue : East Prussia was a province, not a kingdom in 1871. Prussia was the kingdom, East Prussia, Rhine Province etc etc were provinces of that kingdom. Passportguy (talk) 22:36, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Gotcha. I think it'd be better to place everything in once table, but the "government" column remains a small problem there. Would it be "Prussian Province, Kingdom, Duchy, Grand-Duchy, Imperial Territory" for that? --JamesR1701E (talk) 23:21, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think Prussian province would probably be most accurate. Passportguy (talk) 23:26, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I believe a change should be made
[edit]I don't believe the section "Four of Prussia's provinces" should be in the article, especially as a separate section. The article is entitled "States of the German Empire (1871)". Prussia is a Kingdom within the German Empire, so why are we laying out the provinces of Prussia here? In this article, under the section "Kingdoms", maybe it would be suitable to write "See: Provinces of Prussia", as Prussia is listed in this section as one of the Kingdoms within the German Empire, but I believe the notation in parenthesis following the Kingdom of Prussia that is already there is enough.
Also why are only four provinces listed? If you are going to list them here, why not all?

- Yes, this. I also don't understand why the Prussian provinces are shown on the map. Prussian provinces were not states of the German Empire. john k (talk) 13:36, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
