Gypsy capital (Gypsy beggars?)

i removed this statement although, to my knowledge there is some truth behind it. i recall a huge funeral ceremony of a sinti or roma in speyer in the 1970s and i remember reading about speyer being of a certain importance to these people. sinti or roma from far and wide came to this funeral. along the wall of the speyer cemetary (north of the main antrance along Wormser Landstrasse) there is a whole row of elaborate sinti or roma graves. there is no administrative or cultural centre of sinti or roma in speyer which merit a statement that speyer is a centre. to my knowledge there also are no frequent meetings of sinti or roma in speyer. yet the gravesites seem to indicate some kind of importance. thus, if this statement is returned into the article, it needs to be explained. i would gladly make an addition to the german wikipedia on speyer. i do not know wether it is p.c. to use the term "gypsies" for sinti and roma in english. it is no so in german. The article states that the surname Shapiro is derived from the name of Speyer. The article on Shapiro states that this is incorrect. The evidence in the Shapiro article seems more convincing to me, but I don't know a lot about it. Worth looking into. It's lame when Wikipedia contradicts itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.208.120.38 (talk) 03:29, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whereabouts of empeperors and kings

[edit]

in the german wikipedia for the speyer cathedral it says: "Dabei konnte die Identität aller bestatteten Herrscher geklärt werden, denn fast alle Saliergräber hatten die Jahrhunderte überstanden. 1900 erfolgte eine provisorische Wiederbestattung, Grabbeigaben wurden entnommen und in die Abteilung „Domschatzkammer“ des Historischen Museums der Pfalz gebracht. 1902 fand eine endgültige Bestattung in der Gruft statt."

there is no mention of missing bodies when all the graves were dug up in a campaign in 1900. if there is such an assumption, sources should be added.Sundar1 (talk) 13:16, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
