[edit]I used some text from SpaceX Crew-7 because the flight plans are very similar. A bot flagged it as potential copyright violation. If others think it's necessary, please add a note that parts have been copied from that article. --mfb (talk) 09:21, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
Lifeboat
[edit]Hey @Arch dude! Just wanted to mention a couple of things since you’ve been tackling the "lifeboat" issue.
Per this article, NASA and SpaceX say that the Dragon has been cleared to return up to seven crew members in the event of an emergency. In this case that would be the Boe-CFT crew + Tracy who rode up on Soyuz (but not the two Russians who rode on Soyuz) but during many periods of ISS operations it now means that Dragon could be the lifeboat for all crew.
Also, when they say that the crew would be riding on the "cargo pallet" they mean that they would essentially be on the floor of the capsule. The article has a really good picture. This is where the details get fuzzy, but I believe that for NASA, SpaceX outfits the pallet with three metal trays where cargo bags are strapped down. The astronauts would basically lay down in those trays and strap in. The extra seat shown in the picture doesn’t exist, or at least it doesn’t exist up on the station.
I also believe, but haven’t yet found confirmation for this, that the reason why there’s an extra SpaceX IVA suit on board the ISS is because of the Soyuz leak incident. That’s when all the R&D work for this lifeboat plan started. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 17:07, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
