'The streetcar'

[edit]

I don't think that the streetcar, a line not yet operating, should not have such a prominent place on this page. I know it's been an extremely controversial issue, and to be fair, I've done my bit to stir that controversy...but I think that as one line out of several dozen, and as one that's not even operating, it doesn't deserve a full map on this page or perhaps even it's own section. Unless other lines are given some of the same special treatment (which would quickly get ridiculous). The #17 for example has several thousand riders a day and the streetcar currently has none. I propose eliminating the streetcar section entirely (it's all duplicated from the main Cincinnati Streetcar page anyway) and listing it with the other routes with a link to its page and a note that it is under construction. I don't mean to stir the hornet's nest, which is why I bring this up here rather than just making the edit. If no one contests this, I'll make the change in a few days. It was probably meant to be a summary, but it is a bit overdone considering the points you brought up. Unfortunately, removing that section will weight the article even more heavily towards tables and graphs and away from prose. I guess we can balance the article with a more thorough treatment of the agency's history. For example, have there been any notable accidents, funding crises, or controversies (other than the streetcar) in SORTA's history? – Minh Nguyễn 💬 06:55, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good point. There are an awful lot of tables. And really, if I were starting the page from scratch, tables are not the way I would have gone, for either routes or fleet or ridership (my fault on that last one. Perhaps I'll change it to a graph). Is it possible to have some of the tables (like fleet which is way over-detailed IMO) collapsed by default? Or can we otherwise prune/displace it without bothering someone? I'd be happy to expand the prosaic description of routes generally, and mention the streetcar there, if we could move it into the routes section. Sure. The easiest way is to stick it in {{collapse}} or a combination of {{collapse top}} and {{collapse bottom}}. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 20:57, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Working on it. Those collapses are wonderful. Are they allowed outside of talk pages though? Nate Wessel (talk) 21:54, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, right, articles are supposed to use either {{hidden}} or a combination of {{hidden begin}} and {{hidden end}}. I used them in Seal of Ohio, no complaints so far. :^) – Minh Nguyễn 💬 08:24, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
