Oldest?

Oldest Cutsoms Union in the world? Are we sure? What about the Benelux, which well predates this Union if it began as the article states in 1970? What about the customs union between Switzerland and Lichtenstein? Could the article be referring to the predecessor customs union that it says began in 1910? If so, this is how it needs to be stated. Rlquall 18:14, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

I've clarified things a bit and added a reference. — Impi 22:50, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
The zollverein (german customs union) predates it by about a century. To be accurate it should say oldest still existing customs union. -(76.176.110.245 (talk) 21:08, 25 April 2010 (UTC))

looks like this issue with the artical has been resolved. the zollvern ceased to be a customs unin with the advent of a united german nation. it would be strange of people in germany still had to have passports to travel to other german states. so its obvius that the zollvern is now a defunct customs union. i would also like to point out that the european customs union came after the SACU. also if Mozambique and zimbabwe joined this union this union would also include all the outer south african counties. 99.164.52.125 (talk) 22:24, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Agreement with the U.S.

"By late 2004 SACU was negotiating a Free Trade deal with the United States. A Free Trade deal is scheduled to be signed between it and EFTA in November 2005 and to become active in the beginning of 2006." Anyone know how this worked out? Spearmintmints 21:04, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

acording to this map the SACU joined this agreement but the USA did not.

Nations the EFTA has an FTA with in dark blue, negotiating an FTA with in dark cyan, has a declaration on cooperation with in purple, and is in a "joint workgroup" with in dark red; the EFTA is light green.
