About that message

There was a message inserted to the main article that followed:

(This is a little message to all editors there is a editor saying a lot of false information about Sonic, Sub-Zero, and Mario saying that Sub-Zero is Chinese, Mario is Mexican, and Sonic is 17-years-old whoever is saying this please stop Sonic has always been 15, Sub-Zero is Japanese, and Mario is Italian. Just a quick notice thank you.)

I believe this message shouldn't be in the article itself, so I've removed it and put it here on the discussion tab instead. SysGhost (talk) 04:44, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Bill Clinton

How could his attitude have been designed around Bill Clinton's reaction to trouble when Clinton was voted into office in 1993 as president where as the first sonic game came out in 1991?

Answer me this! What does Bill clinton have to do with a fictional video game character? You sonic fanatics are even more disturbed then I thought!12.73.133.43 (talk) 17:40, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

I suspect that line might have been added for a joke by some wikipedia vandal. --24.25.217.76 (talk) 16:14, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

It's not vandalism, if you watch the GameTap Retrospective videos linked to in the references you'll see that it is somehow true (Sonic's original designer, Naoto Ōshima, says it through a translator around 4:10 on first video) - I don't know if he was talking about Clinton while he was a Senator before he was President or if his memory is acting up but he says it making it verifiable. CIGraphix (talk) 21:43, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Clinton was govoner of Arkansas while the character was being designed. Regarding what game designers say in iterviews, they claimed a clearly different lines of chronology for the Legend of Zelda games in each different interview. Lets remember that they are simply trying to market a product and Bill Clinton is popular in the USA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.79.145.128 (talk) 15:10, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Sonic X New Adventures

The television series section describes an anime called "Sonic X: The New Adventures". I'm going to check up on this, and if it's false I'm removing.  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 22:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I see, someone typed up a story on fanfiction.net and claimed it was an anime. Sorry, SX: NA, but you're going bye-bye!  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 22:10, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Chaos Control

I think we should refer the ability of sonic to cause chaos control with just one emerald, as seen in the sonic x episode 37 —Preceding unsigned comment added by XFyre1 (talkcontribs) 19:13, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

first of all, no because Sonic X isnt a place to get info about Sonic unless it's in the section about Sonic X or the Sonic X main article. BUT, you could put down "Sonic can perform Chaos Control with one Chaos Emerald as seen in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle", which I'm pretty damn sure happened. I doubt that this information should be noted unless you can find a proper spot for it in the article. ][User:SxeFluff--SxeFluff (talk) 02:37, 5 February 2008 (UTC)]] 20:37, 4 Febuary 2008

He can do chaos control with one emerald(even a fake one

tails said it has the same wave length and energy only was weaker.)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.131.207.33 (talk)
  • sigh* NO we aren't using stuff from the anime. What, are we gonna go with the game or something that came after?

However, the Anime is based off the game, and in SA2 he does use it to get out of that space capsule/bomb thingy.

Sonic has had a cameo-which the appearance--done by EA--was poorly-in The Simpsons game but it is not in the Outside of Sonic titles section! Please can someone fix that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.145.242.66 (talk) 21:45, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Its not "poorly done" it was just deliberatly made to not look exactly like him for copyright purposes. Its a blue hedgehog looking creature, but EA can deny it was him. Frankly, I'm not sure if this should be mentioned at all (it clearly is a reference to Sonic, as is the Mario that appears in the game, but it technically isn't).

Featured Article

Sonic fans. I think it is time for us to take the next step, and crusade to get this article in shape, nominated, reviewed, etc, until it is a featured article! I don't know many specifics of how the nomination and request process works, but I would like to ask that we campaign for it! If we work at it, it may not be long before we get ourselfs a featured article! Let's give it a go! User:Radman622 01:10, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

It would be cool to see sonic as a featured article. Fwooshlewooshle (talk) 15:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I dig it. We should ban together and all join the SegaProject! (If some of us haven't already.)  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 15:21, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Homing attack.

On the abilities section it says sonic gained his homing attack in sonic 3D blast. I dont remember that being in that game. I thought it first debuted in sonic adventure. Can anyone tell me if it really debuted in sonic 3D blast? Fwooshlewooshle (talk) 22:06, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

In 3D, if Sonic obtained a gold shield he could perform something similar to the homing attack. I'm not sure if it was named 'homing attack' or not, so I can't say if the article is accurate. Cigraphix (talk) 00:20, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it should be resaid as he officialy gained the homing attack in Sonic Adventure but was able to do an ability similar to it in the previous sonic title, Sonic 3D blast. Fwooshlewooshle (talk) 01:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually, after collecting all the chaos emeralds and super emeralds in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic could change forms into Hyper Sonic and perform homing attacks. The ability has been around for a while. --JamesGecko (talk) 02:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, actually, Hyper Sonic just destroyed all enemies on-screen in S3&K; it wasn't a homing attack. Sabre Knight (talk) 22:22, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Although its beside the point all of you are incorrect because the first video game to display the actual homing attack was sonic adventure not Sonic 3 & knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, or any other game that came before sonic adventure. A homing attack is recognized by sonic being able to strike multiple enemies at once without striking a foot on the ground! Maybe you guys should consider a new line of work!12.73.132.218 (talk) 02:22, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Back in Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic could get the golden shield and use something similar to the Homing Attack, but the game manual refers to it as the "Blast Attack," so this doesn't really count. In Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Hyper Sonic could do a "double jump" in the direction the player holds the D-Pad/Control Stick; it isn't a Homing Attack either.--Ericdd329 (talk) 03:09, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Subspace Emmisiary?

What role does Sonic play in the SE in Smash Bros. Brawl? I think that it would be a valid thing to add to 'outside of Sonic titles'... dontcha think? - (Indigo Rush 00:30, 4 February 2008 (UTC))

This will probably be best added after the western relase of Brawl, as I think most solid information about brawl is rather hard to source at the moment.  Doktor  Wilhelm  00:56, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Near the of Subspace Emmisary, Taboo is about to turn the characters into trophies (again), when all of a sudden, a blue blur smashes both his wings. Sonic's aging?

Just so you know, the upcoming game "Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood" is said to be set "two years after Sonic last fought Eggman."

Doesn't that mean that Sonic's 17 years old in this game?

You may consider putting that info in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.106.187.33 (talk) 23:02, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Not really, how old was Sonic when he last fought Eggman? he could have been 30, the age in the Article is Sonic's given age, and fictional chracrets don't age at the same rate as the real world, in fact they can age backward! Plus, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood isn't even out yet, don't count ya chickens!  Doktor  Wilhelm  23:01, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

you know the charater of sonic always seamed to be around the age of 17. (note their NEVER was an oficial age)when you look at it the way he acks, talks, and beheaves is like that to a seinor (or junior in highschool). as far as the games go Sonic's age is unchanged, for their are never any dates mentioned in any of the games(that point to his age). in the various comics and other stories, he is likely to be in his twenties. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sicencefiction (talkcontribs) 06:31, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I talked to Cigraphix, and he said that the person who made the quiz was wrong about Sonic's age. Keyboard mouse (talk) 03:30, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

According to the Western manuals of the original Sonic games, Sonic was 16. When onic Adventure came out, Sonic's age was switched with Knuckles' age, so now he is 15. Seeing as Sonic Chronicles was a spin-off, it shouldn't count in the main series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.155.16 (talk) 04:45, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

SSBB Misinformation

That section about Sonic in Brawl needs to be reworded, and your facts about his gameplay need some serious straightening out. For one, he lacks any moves to send the opponent "flying with ease", in fact, he's in utter lacking of a decent finishing move, making him one of the lower-mid tier characters. 72.208.107.204 (talk) 22:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Article is wee bit too long

My suggestion would be (if you want the GA nomination to pass someday) would be to remvoe these sections: Interaction with other characters and Alternate versions. Its one thing to give a cursory sketch of Sonic's appearances in the comics (see Dr. Eggman) but this info really belongs in Sonic the Hedgehog (American TV and Comic).

As for the "Interactions..." section, that info belongs in each individual character's article. When you repeat the same information that's already available elsewhere, it ends up looking like a blob. You guys will be much happier with this article once it's tidy. Thanks for the continued support, but here on Wikipedia we tend to look for images that are made by the big guys (Sega, Sonic Team, etc.). Unfortunatley, if it isn't official, we can't exactly put it on. Plus we'd need to have it OK'd by the author...which is a lot more work than it's worth. Maybe if you can find a young Sonic in an Archie Comic or something...but thanks anyway!  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 01:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Article clean up effort

Per a recent discussion on WP:VG, I've began working on cleaning up this article. While some parts of this article are decent enough, there's still a lot of extra stuff that needs to be worked on. I'm using Link (The Legend of Zelda) as a model for what this article should be shooting for, as it's one of the few game character articles that's a Featured Article (and one that's passed two FA Reviews, at that). As for what needs to be done:

  • The "Related Songs" section really needs to go. It's nothing more than a list of random tracks (which is unacceptable as indiscriminate info) and as far as I know, no other good fictional character articles includes a whole section on character leimotifs (Darth Vader, for example, only has one sentence mentioning what his leimotif is). I can't see any purpose that a reader would need to know what Sonic's theme was in every video game.
  • The "Character" section needs major trimming. I can understanding talking a bit about the character's personality as well as his most common abilities and Super Sonic (the Link article has a similar section that talks about his common abilities), but who really pays attention to what his home is like, what his weaknesses are or what the personalities of his alternate selves from the cartoons or comic are like? I'm wary to use the word, but there's way too much cruft in that section, and it needs to be weeded out.
  • The "Popularity and references in other media" section needs to be regoranized and expanded. I'm surprised that an article about one of the defining characters in video games, whose rivalry with Mario was the definition of the Nintendo-Sega wars of the 16-bit era, and the mascot of Sega, talks very little about the actual cultural impact the character has had and mostly lists a whole bunch of pop culture references. The section as it is is a good start (mentioning him being one of the few video game characters at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and the Sonic hedgehog gene are good), but it definitely needs to be expanded and sourced.

If anybody else has any other thoughts on how this article can be improved, I'm open to suggestions. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 01:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the songs section should stay as it is real world information. And I can definately agree with you about the home and alternate versions sections, but I think weaknesses should be merged with personality or abilities.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Removed inappropriate sentence with horrible spelling.

I removed a sentence at the end of the section discussing "Werewolf Sonic", due to horrible spelling and barely understandable sentence structure. If anybody objects to this, you can revert my edit.

Deleting "Related Songs" section?

OK, the "Related Songs" section is totally irrelevant. I mean, the article is about the character himself. If anything, we can put the songs in the Game Series article. Still, though, I don't see a reason why this should be included at all. And opinions?  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 01:12, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree with this. It's not really relevant to understanding the character, and it's something that better belongs in a Music of Sonic the Hedgehog article, not an individual character article. None of the feature video game character articles (Link, Master Chief or Cortana) have such a section (or even talk about music related to the character) and articles that do mention music central to the characters (such as Darth Vader) only spend a sentence, maybe two, talking about it. A whole section, especially one that's mostly a track listing, is overkill and unnecessary. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 01:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Darth only had one theme song, Sonic has alot.Fairfieldfencer FFF 09:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but it is real world information. And maybe why those characters don't have song sections is because they didn't have real bands like Crush 40 or Julien-K.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:47, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Just because it's real-world information doesn't automatically make it worthwhile information. All the section is is "These are a bunch of songs that have been Sonic's theme in games" and then gives a list of tracks. There's nothing in this section that would help a reader understand the character better, just a bunch of songs. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 08:24, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm not trying to say the info is "worthwhile" and will "help a reader understand the character better". I'm trying to say that the articles need as much real world info as they can.Fairfieldfencer FFF 08:37, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
But that's what this article is here for, to explain to readers what Sonic is and what influence he's had on society at large - not all real-world information does that. The real-world information that this article needs is a more detailed explanation of Sonic's influence on the video game industry and popular culture, not what in-game music is associated with him. The former explains to a reader why Sonic's so important to video gamers and the industry, the latter is just trivia that only fans of the series would care about. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 08:49, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm not just talking about this article, I'm talking about the others as well. They really need real world info with this merge going on.Fairfieldfencer FFF 09:37, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Look, real-world info has nothing to do with it. This is an article about a video game character and it explains, like NeoChaosX said, how Sonic is important in the video game world today. It describes the many aspects of the hedgehog (his personality, his history etc.) and, although I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time, music shouldn't be included. Not only that, but if we DID decide to keep it, the section would need some major clean up as well. Regards,  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 11:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
OK, people may get mad at this, but I did a major overhaul of the section, and I changed it simply to "music". If anyone has any problems with my edit, please don't hesitate to tell me.  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 14:58, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Cameo Section

OK, honestly, what does a CAMEO SECTION add to this article? This is an informative article about a video game character. I think it's OK if we leave in the stuff about what SONIC games he's in, but we seriously need to take out the cameo section. OK, I cleaned up the section and just listed a few cameo appearences. We don't need to know if Sonic was a stamp in Wacky Worlds.  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 02:12, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I just realized something.

When this article was a GA article, the article was big with full of information. Then when some people started to clean up the article, the article got smaller and, the article fell out of GA status. (No offence to the people who cleaned up the article.) Unknown the Hedgehog 03:11, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Different results of the same cause. The article came under scrutiny, so questionable content was removed and also its GA status was questined. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:51, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
I think the problem isn't the fact that we cleaned it up...I think the problem is that we didn't clean it up WELL enough. There's still lots of things that need to be deleted.  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 02:06, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Brawl image

I'm wondering if it would be worth adding back the image of Mario and Sonic fighting, considering the very idea itself is very popular, and SSBB's pairing of Sonic vs. Mario is the most popular instance of this. - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:49, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it matters either way. Doubtless Mario vs. Sonic fans will be attracted to the article if they find that image on Google though.  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 02:04, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
It's not about attracting people, I just think that an image which slightly depicts the rivalry Mario and Sonic once shared would be nice. - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, OK, I hear you. But what section would we put it in? Still, this article only has like two pictures...  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 13:11, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Pictures

We need some pictures. Can some one get a screenshot of Sonic in one of his games. Or maybe Brawl Bottomlivefan95 (talk) 11:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, we were talking about that in the section right above this one! :) What pictures do you think we shoud put up? Maybe a box art for the original Sonic the Hedgehog...?  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 12:05, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
OK, I added Sonic's Stock Art from his 15th anniversary and labeled it as his new appearence "since Sonic Adventure", but now there's a huge gap in the article due to the huge box under the Sonic Unleashed stock art. Any suggestions?  Spottedstripe(Talk2Me) 12:22, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Maybe we should have a picture of any Sonic Game noticable. Actually i'd quite like a screenshot of Sonic Adventure if you could get it? Bottomlivefan95 (talk) 20:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I moved the picture to the left to fix the gap. We don't need any game screenshots, unless it's that Sonic VS Mario, and put that under "Leacy". We don't need to pictures of Sonic's current look. So, just his latest art, his first, and a screen of Sonic VS Mario in Brawl. That's all we need. We don't need game sceenshots on a character article. Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Yo, how about a picture of the different Sonic transformations? You know, Darkspine, which I'm thinking of adding, and those other ones? I remember there being a section talking about them, but it's gone.

Even though it is a REALLY awesome pic, a Dark Super Sonic pic would go in the Sonic X section, since it was in season 3 (nothing in season 3 ever happened in the games, except for Rouge finding Shadow in suspended animation in the stationary tube). You could try and put up a Hyper Sonic pic, though I'm not sure when that transformation last happened, cuz I only have Sonic Mega Collection:Plus. Also you might want a new Super Sonic picture; the one we have now is just an art dezign. -Mace —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.164.61.26 (talk) 21:50, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Yup. Rouge has very little merchandise (To my knowledge, a plush, asnd a toy, both of which I own rofl), mean while, Sonic has towles, clothes, puzzles, plushes, toys, calenders, etc. So, I'll test out my idea on the SHC. Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Soul 00:23, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Game releases

The game release dates seem a little off. The article says that Sonic the Hedgehog was released in 1996 and the sequal came in 1997. Meanwhile, the articles for those games says 1991 and 1992 respectively, which seems a lot more accurate considering I was much younger when those games came around. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.164.136.201 (talk) 04:34, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Sonic's forms

Super Sonic: formed by gathering the 7 chaos emeralds and 50 power rings power to move even faster than sonic and is able to jump through enemies

Dark Super Sonic: Seen only in season 3 of Sonic X; He simply got mad at the Meterex, because Cosmo was real freaked out, and Chris was practically K.O.ed. Strangely, he didn't have all seven Chaos Emeralds with him

Hyper Sonic: Seen in origanal 16- and 8-bit games. Activated after one collected the Super Emeralds

Dark Spine Sonic: formed by gathering the 7 secret rings

Werehog Sonic: formed at night after having the 7 chaos emerlads energy drained out of him forcefully by Dr, Eggman's laser cannon, while Dark Gaia was simotaniosly released

</nowiki>

Uh, there's already a section for most of Sonic's transformations, it's the Characteristics section. Besides, the section you propose is game guide material and doesn't belong on the article anyway. NeoChaosX (talk, edits) 01:18, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Uh, no, not quite, sorry, look again, it only mentions super sonic and leaves out all his other forms, as mentioned above (werehog, hyper, dark super, dark spine) and it no "game guide", it's called a character Bio, not having his forms listed and detailed makes no sense since they are important parts of, well, him. not having them is like having a page for master chief and failing to mention he is always in a suit of armor; that'd be silly anyhoo, an organized chart with pictures with details describing their powers and how they are formed would be important information for someone looking up sonic for sure. Lexgamer (talk) 01:58, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Most of the forms amount to game guide material because it only appears once (Dark Super Sonic was only in one episode of Sonic X, Hyper Sonic only appears when Sonic 3 & Knuckles are linked together, Darkspine Sonic only appears in Secret Rings, Sonic the Werehog only appears in Unleashed), only things that are recurring elements (like Super Sonic) should be listed, otherwise descriptions that only appear once go into the page about that one time they appear (Darkspine should be described in the Sonic and the Secret Rings page, the Werehog should be described in the Sonic Unleashed page, etc.). Most importantly everything must be correctly sourced to a reliable source and not amount to original research, so Super Sonic is detailed enough as it is and doesn't need a full section seperate from Characteristics. CIGraphix (talk) 19:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

ok now that sort of response i like, and i now agree because that makes total sense when you explain it, thank you for that. i take back my idea, as for NeoChaos, you could learn a thing or two from Cigraphix, being a punk right off the bat is just plain rude and uncalled for, again, thanks cigraphix. that being said, end of story. bye Lexgamer (talk) 19:29, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I added the Hyper Sonic to the article, because I noticed that Hyper Knuckles was mentioned on the Knuckles article. Seems consistent, and it's not a huge addition or anything. Gpia7r (talk) 20:00, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Both are now taken care of - just to reiterate: single game occurrences go on the game page in which they appeared. Thanks CIGraphix (talk) 21:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

May it be noted that Darkspine Sonic was made with only 3 secret rings, and there are two Hyper Sonics: the one in Sonic 2 where you do the glitch in Oil Ocean Zone Act 2; and the one in Sonic 3 & Knuckles where you get all seven Super Emeralds or you use debug mode and hit the Super box. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.155.16 (talk) 04:51, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

The Simpsons Game

As far as I know, The Simpsons' game has has a blue hedgehog. However, while a reference to Sonic, this does not constitute an appearance, due to copyright issues (EA not wanting to pay for it.) Does it really belong here, especially while it pretty much states he was in it? I believe it either shouldn't be there or it should read that it was a reference, not a cameo. Classification

Has it ever been stated exactly what kind of hedgehog Sonic is? I remember reading somewhere that he's an African Pygmy Hedgehog. I just think that the specific species of hedgehog that Sonic is should be found and added to his article. The Mario Bros. are the bomb!, 9:53, 2009 August 3 —Preceding undated comment added 01:53, 4 August 2009 (UTC).

Nope, what kind of hedgehog Sonic is has never been mentioned by official sources. The African Pygmy Hedgie thing is speculation by a fansite called Concept Mobius - which does not meet the criteria of being called a reliable source. I doubt Sega / Sonic Team will ever say exactly what type of hedgehog Sonic is (Goofy has been around since what the 30s, it hasn't been revealed what kind of dog he is). CIGraphix (talk) 03:44, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
In Mike Pattenden's Stay Sonic (effectively the story bible for various British Sonic tie-ins like Sonic the Comic), Kintobor refers to him as Erinaceus europaeus. Naturally, as a cartoon character this information is as vital and encyclopaedic as how old he is and what he weighs. :-) --Nick RTalk 22:26, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Sonic the Comic is a canon seperate from the other canons (the games / 4 TV shows / Archie), so if it was notable it would go into the info on Sonic the Comic. Also, although I felt height and weight were notable enough for a mention, several editors have disputed that saying they weren't notable, and concensus seemed to be with them; I doubt this would hold much stronger of a standing. CIGraphix (talk) 03:15, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Smijes08 asked if it had ever been stated anywhere, and I answered that it had. But my smiley and link were meant to imply that I think that asking what species of hedgehog Sonic is (or his age, or his weight in kilogrammes) makes about as much sense as asking whether Mickey Mouse, Danger Mouse and Ignatz Mouse are house mice, field mice or wood mice. --Nick RTalk 17:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Restrictions Needed on Sonic Articles!

I propose the following for the Sonic Articles: 1.Block any IP address with a history of vandalism from making changes to the sonic articles or discussion pages. 2.Require that anyone who makes changes to the article have a wikipedia account for more 1 week. 3.Anyone who uses profanity on the articles discussion pages be permanently blocked from making changes to the article for no less then 5 months.

Doing this should curb the threat of vandalism for good on each and every sonic related article. so I put it to a vote if you support the idea of stronger protections show your support below my section and simply say "In Favor!" or "Not In Favor!"Fakecatholic (talk) 20:20, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

It seems that you're new to Wikipedia so I have to explain that Wikipedia doesn't work like that. First Wikipedia is not a democracy running off majority voting, we work by consensus building (read Wikipedia:Polling is not a substitute for discussion). Second two of your proposals run contrary to Wikipedia being the "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit", are against its Blocking Policy and are impossible to do anyway since the ability to block IPs and editing accounts from individual pages doesn't exist - blocks are all or nothing. And finally, Wikipedia is not censored. Thanks. CIGraphix (talk) 14:12, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Mario/Sonic image

I think the image of these two should be changed. While it is their first meeting, I would say that their Mario & Sonic meeting is far more significant; in Smash, Mario and Sonic could almost never have an encounter if the player so chose, but Mario & Sonic is about nothing less than the two of them and their friends playing sports together. It's also far more successful than Brawl. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 10:34, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

How does Sonic go from Planet Mobius to Earth?

I am asking because in the Orginal games his story takes place on "Mobius" and there was no explanation on how he ended up Earth?... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Real ultimate life hulk! (talkcontribs) 16:17, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe there is a reliable source that ever mentioned what happened here. But the actual reason is that there was a seperate storyline for the Japanese and English versions. In the Japanese version, Sonic has always been on Earth, Mobius only existed in the English languange versions - this is also the real explaination as to why Eggman/Robotnik has 2 names (which are described as one being the real name and the other is a nickname), Eggman has always been the character's name in Japanese but supposedly wasn't used in English because of copywrite concerns with some Beatles' song. With Sonic Adventure, the 2 storylines were brought together: the English version's Mobius was replaced with the Japanese version's Earth and Robotnik gained the nickname Eggman. It would be nice to find some reliable sources to verify this for Wikipedia inclusion. CIGraphix (talk) 21:29, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Mobius was a western invention used only in the comics and DiC cartoons. In the games it has always been Earth. 24.165.55.99 (talk) 04:55, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

You are right that Sonic has the middle name of Maurice in the comics, however there are different versions of Sonic - and each version is only canon to its own "universe." So what appears in an Archie comic is only canon to the "ArchieSonic" universe - it is not canon to the games version of Sonic or any other version (unless it appears there too). Agreed. Yuji Naka's role in the development of Sonic the Hedgehog should not be likened to Shigeru Miyamoto's role in the development of Super Mario Brothers, since Miyamoto actually created his Mario character himself. Mario was never intended to be a mascot; his function (as Jumpman) was simply to be an avatar for the player, with his distinctive appearance evolving due to necessities linked with working with really small pixel based graphics. Sonic the Hedgehog was deliberately designed to be a character and mascot first and foremost - while Yuji Naka and his team were tasked with creating a revolutionary new game for the new 16-bit SEGA console, Naoto Ōshima was brought in to draft and create what became the Sonic the Hedgehog and Eggman characters. It was ultimately the combination of the character design by Ōshima and the game engine by Naka that propelled the series to success. While Naka's role in the development of the original game series far exceeds Ōshima's, this article pertains specifically to the character rather than the game series which have their own articles.
