Cheetahs?

[edit]

Okay, so far there had been cheetahs in various zoos, reserves and national parks of Asia, and there already have Asian cheetahs in deserts and reserves of Iran, which the country itself doesn't want the species to move to India or any other countries where they once roamed. By any chance, could the cheetahs reintroduced in the Arabian Wildlife Park be the Asiatic cheetahs or African cheetahs?--FierceJake754 (talk) 19:55, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just find out that they are not Asian cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus venaticus), not even their closest relative from South Africa (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus) or one of their closest neighbor from the northwest (Acinonyx jubatus hecki). It's the cheetah subspecies from northeast and central Africa, the Sudan cheetah, also known as Ethiopian cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus soemmeringii). Too bad, because the regionally extinct Asiatic cheetah, native to India, Iran and Saudi Arabia, are completely distinct and are far from being related to the northeast population but the south African species is their closest relative instead.--FierceJake754 (talk) 07:33, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
