Religion

Was he Jewish, or of Jewish descent? Delatte (as cited in article, p. 2), writes (pardon the lack of accents) "L'historien Cedrenus rapporte que l'empereur Michel le Paphlagonien bannit de la Ville, en 1034, un Symeon protobestiarios qui manifestait publiquement l'indignation que lui causaient les parjures et les injustices du nouvel empereur. Symeon se retira au Mont Olympe ou il prit l'habit monacal dans un monastere qu'il restaura. On a suppose avec assez de vraisemblance que ce personnage est le meme que notre ecrivain."
