Circus lake

As an American, I know what a circus is and what a lake is, but what is a circus lake? I couldn't find it anywhere except in this article's reference. Perhaps they got it from the German "Zirkussee" or "Zirkustalsee", but it doesn't make sense in English. Art LaPella (talk) 04:07, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates

The coordinates need the following fixes:

The current co-ordinates place the lakes in the middle of the North Atlantic. An east vs west longitude issue maybe?

Lake identities

Looking at the gallery photo File:Rila 7 lakes circus panorama edit1.jpg it is hard to identify what lake is what.

On the left 1/3 I see one lake at what appears the highest altitude - The Tear?
In the middle 1/3 is a kidney shaped lake at the next highest altitude - The Eye - There is nothing oval about this
In the right 1/3 there are 4 (or 5) lakes, one being very small and only being visible when looked at at full resolution
- left of the bottom of right 1/3 - The Kidney? - doesn't look kidney shaped.
- above the previous one (but downhill from it) - The Twin? - In no way does this appear as the largest lake
- To the right of the land between the previous two lakes a tiny lake - The Trefoil - Doesn't appear to have an irregular shape
- Directly above the previous lake and the rightmost lake in the photo - The Fish Lake?
- Above and slightly left of the previous lake - The Lower Lake?

These don't seem right. Are these the same 7 lakes as google maps

From the the descriptions in the article—and the aerial photography on Google Maps—it is clear that both panoramic images show only the lowest (and largest) six lakes/ponds. Both images appear to be taken from the vicinity of the highest and smallest lake/pond (without actually showing it). —MJBurrage^(T•C) 22:55, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's right: you'd need to take an almost 360 degrees panorama to get all the lakes in one picture, and there's only one spot (10m north of the Tear lake, here 42°11′54.87″N 23°18′38.11″E / 42.1985750°N 23.3105861°E) where this is possible. Instead the photographer chose to stand here 42°11′49.15″N 23°18′49.54″E / 42.1969861°N 23.3137611°E where he could get six of the lakes in less than 180 degrees, but the Tear lake is hidden by a ridge (left edge of the picture).
