This section of "Examples" that was removed I believe are very revelent to the article. They were removed because of Wikipedia:External links which states that: Adding external links can be helpful to everyone, but they should be restricted to those that are most meritable, accessible and relevant to the article. Some are external links to Self Guided tours and some are brochures associated with Sefl Guided tours. These were put here to show examples and are most relevant to the article.
The first one is a brochure of a University - "Self Guided Tour of UCLA" - an educational facility. It is quite common that people do self quided tours of educational facilities.
- Educational facilities [1]
The next one is a "Self Guided Tour" (wording on brochure) of at Meriam Library at California State University.
- Personal research [2]
The next one is a self guided tour with a "GyPSy Guide" electronic device that plugs into your car stereo.
- Canadian Rockies Self Driving Itineraries with GyPSy Guide[3]
The next one is an external link to Randonnée Tiours - a North America leading specialist in self-guided active tours since 1990.
- Self guided vacations [4]
The next one is of self guided tours with association to audio devices. Here the Biltmore Estate would be another example where most people tour the facilities on their own (self guided) with an audio recorder telling you what you are seeing at each step.
- Self guided audio experiences [5]
The next one is a self guided tours with the National Park Service (brochure says: Self Guided Auto Tour).
- National Park Service [6]
The next one is of self guided adventure tours tours.
- Adventure experiences [7]
The next one is of self guided tours with Brookgreen Gardens as a perfect example as well as other gardens in other cities.
- Botanical / sculpture parks [8]
Unless there is a better reason that is valid I will be putting these prime examples of Self Guided Tours back that are relevant to the article. --Doug talk 12:28, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would suggest that an appropriate compromise is to trim the list (it was pretty long) and to focus on retaining those with minimal corporate advertiseyness. For example, the NPS link is excellent. The GPS tour thing (that you're citing here by product name) looks like an ad. UCLA free PDF? Good. Randon's dot-com? Ad. So I'd recommend culling the list on that basis. Also, note that WP:EL recommends linking to HTML rather than direct to rich media (like the NPS and UCLA PDFs) if possible -- if there's a good web page for that, then it's preferable, but PDF is certainly fairly commonplace if that remains the best option. — Lomn 06:04, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
