Scouts BSA was one of the Social sciences and society good articles, but it has been removed from the list. There are suggestions below for improving the article to meet the good article criteria. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.
Scouts BSA is part of the Scouting WikiProject, an effort to build a comprehensive and detailed guide to Scouting and Guiding on the Wikipedia. This includes but is not limited to boy and girl organizations, WAGGGS and WOSM organizations as well as those not so affiliated, country and region-specific topics, and anything else related to Scouting. If you would like to participate, you can edit the article attached to this page, or visit the project page, where you can join the project and/or contribute to the discussion.ScoutingWikipedia:WikiProject ScoutingTemplate:WikiProject ScoutingScouting
This article was delisted because of this discussion: Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Scouts BSA/1. Most of the people involved when the article first made it to GA are no longer involved with wikipedia. I have gone over the whole piece. It has been edited, parts rewritten, citations added, etc. I'm going to submit this to be copyedited. Does anyone want to noodle with it first? --evrik(talk)17:30, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Evrik: I'm always happy to to take a look at / improve an article and will do so with this one. But being concerned about GA or FA status is not my dance. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 17:39, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I copyedited this article for the September copyediting drive and have a few notes someone might look for if they wanted to make larger content edits to this article. A few specialized terms are not explained. The biggest example was probably the use of the word 'webalo,' which I removed. The 'First Class' designation a Scout can reach after becoming an Eagle Scout was also not explained. It might be worthwhile to reexamine section orders, it seems like pretty foundational things that are mentioned throughout the article, like what a troop is, don't have a section until later. Your "first class" comment on the talk page was not correct, but I did not see that error reflected in your edits. "First Class" is one of a series of ranks which about half way to eagle. "Webelos" was put in as the oldest phase of Cub Scouts and thus more specific about who is transitioning to Scouts BSA. But there may be changes regarding this and so I did not put it back in. Thanks for the response and the clarification about the terms. I see now that 'First Class' is somewhat explained in this article, but after it has been referenced a few times. I'll change it so the first use of the term links to the 'First Class' article. I see that Webelos could be a useful term to use, I guess it's just a question of how accessible this article should be to a general audience that doesn't have familiarity with BSA; to make it accessible 'Webelos' should probably be clarified or not used.
