Global Warming
[edit]This is user, barce. I recently undid a change that attributed the Pacific Decadal Oscillation to the warming of the Pacific Northwest. The PDO shows no trend and therefore the PDO is not responsible for the trend of global warming. For that we need to look elsewhere, perhaps, human made causes. https://www.skepticalscience.com/Pacific-Decadal-Oscillation.htm — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barce (talk • contribs) 17:01, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
File:San francisco in fog with rays.jpg to appear as POTD soon
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:San francisco in fog with rays.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on April 9, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-04-09. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 05:12, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Karl the fog
[edit]I added an "In popular culture section" to this article about Karl the Fog—there are ample references, including not only local media but the Washington Post. This is in my opinion one of the cases where such a section is best justified. And it's far more proportionate, and less recentist, than writing a stub just on the Twitter account and responses to it. I found someone had already created the redirect Karl the fog in 2015, and I had not realized at the time that the Twitter account had been previously mentioned in the article. However, Lafroyg has vandalized and removed first the previously existing paragraph and then the In poopular culture section about it, sometimes with no rationale, once with the statement that the movie from which the name "Karl" was taken does not mention San Francisco fog (no claim is made in the source or the section that it does), and several times with statements that it demeans San Francisco. This is an inadequate rationale for removing a well-sourced section, and I have included a (well-sourced) statement that people in the city disagree over the name. Why is Wikipedia allowing this anonymous self-promotion of this person's Twitter and Instagram feeds? This name was created by one person as a means to generate interest in their social media accounts. Has the person that created this even been to San Francisco? Do you have any way of knowing? It was my understanding that Wikipedia makes an attempt to be an accurate source of information. The inclusion of this stupid name reflects poorly on Wikipedia's credibility.Lafroyg (talk) 18:02, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
- The section accurately reflects the sources cited; have you read them? Do you dispute the summary of them to which you keep adding personal opinion—or do you have further reliable sources you can add justifying the statements that the name is "demeaning" of the city? If the section accurately reflects the sources, and is not undue, then it cannot do harm to Wikipedia's reputation for accuracy. Also, while the person behind the Twitter account is anonymous, the Instagram account demonstrates that they are in the city a lot, whether or not they live there. The purpose behind teh account is immaterial if it has received a lot of coverage in reliable sources, which it has. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:15, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Direction
[edit]"northwest flow to a westerly and even southwesterly direction... "
Say if all these are "from" directions or "to" directions. Jidanni (talk) 23:13, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Wind direction is flow from, e.g. a northwest wind flows from the northwest to its opposite compass direction. Article with citation here: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wind_direction Barce (talk) 23:54, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
