Affirmative action
[edit]I stated "He will take office following affirmative action on the part of the Senate of the 111th Congress upon a formal nomination submitted by the President." Someone saw "affirmative action" and removed it as an alleged "racists remark" and substituted "confirmation." My remark was not racist and I cannot imagine how anyone could construe it as racist. David Trumbull (talk) 20:06, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- First African American in the cabinet? ". If his nomination is confirmed, Kirk will be the first African American to hold the cabinet-level position." isn't the secretary of state in the cabinet? i'm deleting this 68.236.199.95 (talk) 02:34, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Committee hearing?
[edit]Inside US Trade on February 18 reported that the Senate Committee on Finance will hold Kirk's hearing on Feb. 26 with the full Senate expected to take up the nomination soon after that. David Trumbull (talk) 21:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- The nomination was received by the Senate and referred, on January 20th, to the Committee on Finance. Action in committee is unlikely until after the senate markup of the stimulus package is completed which could run into the first week of February. Query below raises good question: does Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation also have jurisdiction?David Trumbull (talk) 17:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Does anyone know if a nomination hearing at the Commerce Committee is scheduled? Cassandro (talk) 12:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
