Desegregation of the Army

[edit]

Untitled

[edit]

I was rearranging some stuff. Someone inserted a part about desegregation and made it sound like the Goldwater-Nichols act of 1986 desegregated the Army. I left out a sentence that implied that he was being considered for a supreme court vacancy. If someone has a citation for that, I would be fine with that.

Notes on desegregation of the Army Air Force are from a document Survey and Recommendations Concerning the Integration of the Negro Soldier Into the Army September 22, 1941, by Robert P. Patterson (then undersecretary of war) which is in the Truman Library.

IBM Lawyer

[edit]

According to Thomas J. Watson, Jr. in his memoir Father, Son & Co. (ISBN 0-553-29023-1 pages 233-234) Robert Patterson was hired by Thomas J. Watson to avoid the U.S. Department of Justice anti-trust suit filed on January 21, 1952. Robert Patterson died January 22, 1952, before being able to defend IBM.
