Cars in the series

British TV series in the 1970s often betrayed the producers' relationship with one car manufacturer. The Professionals always used Fords, the New Avengers always had British Leyland products. The Saint, however, used a car which seemed to be chosen for its looks, since arguably the Jaguar XJ-S was a good update from Moore's Volvo coupé. The point of adding this in the discussion page here is to see if anybody would like to make this discussion of "vehicles as part of the 1970s styling" into a referenced point in the main article. We'd need to check facts. Incidentally, the Jensen Interceptor page on Wikipedia used to claim that car was used in the Return of the Saint... was it in fact ever used instead of the Jaguar?

Use of the radio theme

I just added a paragraph to the effect that a few notes of the Vincent Price The Saint radio series theme is heard whenever the halo appears above Simon's head before the main credits begin. Can anyone confirm that the radio theme was in fact composed by Charteris himself? I remember reading that a long time ago and it would be worth noting, but I don't know if my memory is accurate. Similarly I have no idea whether the radio theme was also used in any of the movies. 23skidoo 04:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

The theme to this show is played by the fictional character Alan Partridge in the episode "Never Say Alan Again". He plays the track in his car while waiting for Lynn to visit her mother's grave. In the car he "air drums" to the music before reminding Lynn that her 10 minutes is nearly up.

My rationale for doing so is the fact that there is no indication given as to even which series this episode belongs to (Lynn? Who?), and the actual article on Alan Partridge offers no clue since apparently he appeared in several series. I have no objection to this section being part of the article, but there needs to be more information given in order for it to be helpful or notable. 23skidoo 14:56, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Why only one series?

Please can a knowledgeable editor add a sentence or two to the article, explaining why ROTS was not picked up for a second series? It seems to have been remarkably successful, so why only one series? Andrew Oakley (talk) 09:37, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I remember watching a few episodes at the time and they were definitely much more gritty and "realistically" violent than the 1960s series. or even Roger Moore's 007 movies - more like Get Carter than 60s action and police tv series, sort of, and with much more realistic and brutal thugs. Perhaps that was seen as "out of style" for this vintage character, who is supposed to move in a rich and suave world and with a touch of self-irony to the violent confrontations? 192.121.232.253 (talk) 12:24, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

I saw a TV interview where Ian Ogilvy said he would have liked to have done longer as The Saint - one probable factor was that ITC was in it's latter years then, and Return of The Saint was the final action/adventure show made Grella (talk) 00:32, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
