The article does not discuss about her foreign films.Holywarrior 11:40, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rekha's "death" is just some Internet hoax. I live in India and till today (Aug 11) I haven't heard anything about it in any of the major newspapers or TV channels. And except for the link in the article, I can't seem to find anything about her "death" on the Internet either.

I think you're right about the incorrect death news. I did some research: EInsiders found the death story at Newindpress.com, which is based in India. The original story from August 8, 2005, seems to have been retracted. This is what the original text read:

"Film actress dies as jeep overturns; Monday August 8 2005 13:24 IST

VISAKHAPATNAM: A film actress and driver of the jeep died while four members of a film crew were injured after their jeep overturned between M Koduru and V Madugula here on Sunday.

According to the police, a seven-member film crew was returning from Paderu in a jeep after shooting for the film ?Vajrala Veta?, when the jeep overturned between M Koduru and V Madugula.

While the jeep driver died on the spot, actress Rekha succumbed to injuries on her way to hospital.

The others escaped with minor injures and were admitted in Narsipatnam hospital."

I have also been unable to find anything else about this story on the internet, and it's been several days. It's safe to say it is false.

This is not a hoax. It's true. But the Rekha in question is another actress. There was also a small-time Telugu actress with the same name. It was her who died in the mishap. She was the lead in her only hit film Anandam. Sanjay911 (talk) 20:32, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
                                                             -------- RC T.
Rekha is a common name in Andhra Pradesh and close to 200 movies are made in Tollywood. So, while this may not be a hoax, the links are definitely not about the subject of this article. --Gurubrahma 07:34, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rekha's Child

[edit]

It is also alleged that she has fostered an illegitimate child with Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan---- I have removed this sentence .Plz quote source for inclusion.Holywarrior 16:57, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cat?

[edit]

I removed the reference to a cat. A relationship with a pet does not constitute a "relationship" in the context of human affairs. Ekantik 02:51, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Full filmography

[edit]

Perhaps some effort should be made to include a full filmography. Based on discussions at parent projects, including a "selected" filmography brings up POV concerns (who decides which film to select?), so it would be a good idea to fleshen it out with a full list. With a nice table of course. Ekantik talk 01:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

[edit]

That was my request to Wikipedia:RM

Rekha GanesanRekha — This article has been known as Rekha and everybody knows this actress as Rekha. Someone decided to use her full name, while she is known as Rekha everywhere; Her stage name is only Rekha; She is credited as Rekha in every single film without exceptions; IMDb.com names her as Rekha, as well as every other reliable and unreliable site does. Even here on wikipedia, all the other articles related to her somehow, name her as Rekha. Please redirect her name. Her full name can be used in the introduction. Let's take Shakira for example. We can't move her page to Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll just because it's her real name. Her stage name is Shakira, and that's how it should be here. No-one prefers Rekha Ganesan over Rekha. It wasn't an established editor who moved the page earlier. It was a new editor, who is absent from Wikipedia now. Thanks, best regards

Please, discuss and add opinions. Thank you, --ShahidTalk2me 12:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What reliable sources?

[edit]

Present any sources that say Rekha's original language is Tamil. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.176.216.157 (talk) 20:17, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake, I confused it with another actress. Good link, thank you. ShahidTalk2me 22:32, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is Gemini Ganesan a Telugu? Rekha is half Tamil and Telugu. She was born and largely brought up at Chennai. --Commander (Ping Me) 03:28, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Check [1] and [2] and see what they say about her. I feel the article is completely biased. She has not done any Tamil movies I agree, even Rajinikanth has not done any Marathi film. Do you mean Marathi is not his mother tongue? --Commander (Ping Me) 03:33, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed her name in Hindi. Her mother died at a young age, she was brought up at Chennai were Tamil is the major language, then how could her naturally spoken language be Telugu. --Commander (Ping Me) 05:16, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So, we'll have to find other sourceS... Do you find other sources about this? ShahidTalk2me 06:29, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that she was brought up in Chennai is evident from this article. Gemini is a Tamil born in the Princley state of Pudukottai. What else is needed? --Commander (Ping Me) 08:21, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Vensatry, we use sources, not assumptions. That she was in Chennai means nothing. She was never in contact with her father and met him only a few times when she was already grown. Sources must be given, not something else. The anon gave a source which says her mother tongue was Telugu. If you have something better to offer, then it's great, but not two scripts here. ShahidTalk2me 08:44, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Can you explain why did you introduce Hindi script, when the Telugu transliteration of her name was already there. --Commander (Ping Me) 08:59, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're wrong, I was not the one who did it. By the way, I don't think it's a big deal. Rekha is after all the stage name of a Hindi film actress, so I would not oppose to having a Hindi script there, but anyway, it's really not a big deal. ShahidTalk2me 09:08, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Check out this one. Hope this will clarify Vidya Balan's mother tongue too. --Commander (Ping Me) 09:50, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, this link doesn't really prove anything about either Rekha or Vidya. No one opposes to Vidya's language being Tamil although she said she speaks a mix of Tamil and Malayalam. Anyway, not relevant here. Back to Rekha, this link doesn'y explicitly say anything. I'm too looking for some sources, without much success so far. ShahidTalk2me 10:11, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The TOI source doesn't look like presenting the truth in this case. It glorifies the telugu film industry. I think they mentioned the mother tongue as Telugu mainly because of the reason that her mother was a Telugu actress. If Tamil isn't her mother tongue then why she says "Aah Namma Ponnu". Do we need any other sources when these words were uttered by the actress herself. I agree that she didn't have a good relationship with her father, but I don't think she has a personal hatred towards the language. --Commander (Ping Me) 10:20, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Dear friend, I really don't make a big deal out of it. After all the source presented is by TOI, and it's a reliable source and they have no reason to lie. She might have said "Aah Namma Ponnu" because she has Tamil roots. Again, Rekha did not know her father. Anyway, I highly disagree with this method of observing and anlaysing these issues instead of really looking for practical sources. ShahidTalk2me 10:30, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Commander -- Rajnikanth's name is only in Tamil on his page and I have no idea if his original language is Marathi. Probably not because he was born in Bangalore and later moved to Chennai. Rekha's Tamil side -- Gemini Ganesan -- abandoned her and she moved with her Telugu Mother most likely out of Chennai. She's closer to her Telugu side even if she knows some Tamil words. 76.176.216.157 (talk) 10:41, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did not question about the credibility of TOI. What I meant to say was that could be an error as well. Sometimes even reliable sources make mistakes. We must not care about her being abandoned by her father. Do you mean to say that Gemini is not her father? If multiple sources say her mother tongue as either Tamil or Telugu then it's good to go with that. Regarding Rajinikanth his name is in Tamil since that name was given by a Tamil director to act in Tamil films and the Marathi transliteration of Shivaji Rao Gaikwad is also present. At this point of time, I feel it's good to avoid any of these language scripts and the statement which talks about her mother tongue. Most of the Telugu actors used to live in Chennai till the 1990s, so even if she was brought up by her mother she must have spent her childhood in Chennai. --Commander (Ping Me) 13:40, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Comment to IP User Do you think that she is fluent in Telugu? see this. --Commander (Ping Me) 13:43, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For someone who said that she speaks just one or two words in Tamil check this out. --Commander (Ping Me) 14:01, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I got this one after a long search, which is highly reliable. --Commander (Ping Me) 14:08, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • None of those say anything about her Mother language. Feroz Khan is fluent in Tamil too according to the source on Sridevi's page. And anyway, if Rajnikanth is only in Tamil because that's his Tamil screen name -- Rekha should be only in Telugu/Hindi because that's her Telugu/Hindi screen-name. 76.176.216.157 (talk) 20:31, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't meant to say that her mother tongue is Tamil since she is fluent in that. I quoted that since you said, she utters few words in Tamil. The last source says her as a Tamilian actress along with Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini and Sridevi. --Commander (Ping Me) 03:20, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see no replies for my last question. So I feel it's better if we avoid scripts and the sentence which talks about her naturally spoken language. It's wise to include the Devanagari transliteration of her name rather than including the Tamil/Telugu scripts, since she is primarily a Bollywood actress. --Commander (Ping Me) 11:44, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay for now - I'll look for some sources. ShahidTalk2me 11:50, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dindriyena (talk · contribs) 16:37, 21 May 2012 (UTC) Taking over review from nominator. —SpacemanSpiff 20:37, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm nominating this article for GA. Just a reminder, English is not my first language, if reviewers have comments could they please write in clear, full sentences to avoid confusion on my part.

Note of interest to reviewers. Because this article was slightly long, we removed a few things to keep it all tight and neat. A few of the things removed were on the topic of [Personal life] and [Image]. To help the GA review, we removed some of these details and I set up a new article for it which has been nominated for deletion. We have reviewed this article and have all agreed that content was of an GA standard in it's own right. If the article is rejected, we are going to have to bring some of the info back, wasting our hard work trimming. For those editors who understand the article and the content please help, that info needed its own article because of this article's length.Dindriyena (talk) 16:37, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is wrong on many levels. First you nominated an article that you had very little input on. Second, you cannot review an article that you nominated. You need to read the policies, starting with WP:GA. BollyJeff | talk 17:13, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Really, your WP:GA says,If you believe an article meets the Good article criteria, you may nominate it. Second later, agree with your suggestion "had very little input on". If article isn't on the point of GA, will re nominee after having too much little input on.cheersDindriyena (talk) 18:33, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're missing the main point, which is that you cannot review an article you nominated. And there's something else: if you have to ask those who comment to do so in "clear, full sentences" to avoid confusion on your part, you have to ask yourself if you are qualified to review articles for GA status, since prose is an essential part of it. Finally, who is "we"? Drmies (talk) 19:23, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't trying to reviewing it. My intention was just to nominate it,none more than that. Reviewing might have been accidentally.Dindriyena (talk) 19:39, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Reviewing

There's still a fair bit of work to get it to GA class and therefore I'm quick failing this for the following reasons:

  1. Comprehensiveness -- Personal biography coverage is very weak; there are sources available for the same. Awards section is left with a link (although awards are covered within the career part) either the link should be moved to see also or a summary of awards and nominations and any significance should be included etc.
  2. Repetition -- learning Hindi is mentioned twice
  3. Lede -- lede is not a summary of the article, rather it adds new information
  4. Referencing -- appears good, but there are some issues, e.g. spot check on [15a] shows that the reference doesn't support the statement, as it's used in conjunction with the earlier ref.

Also, it is best to consult with the major contributors of the article before nominating, as they would know the background of these issues. Result: Fail —SpacemanSpiff 20:37, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will nominated this article for GA, after I finished to expand it. If you have old issues of magazines (such as Filmfare, Screen, Star & Style, Movie, Stardust and Cine Blitz) that have her interviews and reviews of her films, please send it to me via e-mail. Thank you! --Nicholas Michael Halim (talk) 03:36, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The picture in the "Early life" section was found when I watched her interview with Simi Garewal yesterday. You can change it if you have a better one. --Nicholas Michael Halim (talk) 02:35, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good job, Nicholas. There's a lot to be done here. Most of my work back then focused on the career and artistry sections. My first recommendation is to use the best sources possible, starting with books. Any piece of information that can be cited to a book, should be. I have created the Bibliography section, but there isn't enough. More is needed. ShahidTalk2me 09:41, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
