Discussion of Illegal Material

[edit]

I feel that my removal of the Propeller Arena fanpage was in no way vandalism. The page in question contained two bits of very illegal subject matter: 1: The soundtrack to the game, which was ripped from the illegally ripped disk image. And 2: A blatent link to a bittorrent site where the game can be downloaded. I strongly feel that a link to that site should be forbidden from inclusion on wikipedia until these two problems are addressed. C.A.T 12:26, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The game was never commercially released, fer pete's sake! You're making a huge shit-fit about nothing. Besides, the site exists for fucking informative purposes. Stormdude 13:46, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hosting someone else's copyrighted works is in no way "informative". The site could be made completely legal with some extra effort. There are forms that are available for website owners to ask permission to host copyrighted works on their webpage. Instead of hosting the files without permission, you should fill out these forms and ask Sega/AM2 for permission to host the music on your fansite. The link to the bittorrent site should be removed without question, as not only does it have the full warez download of Propeller Arena, it also has downloads for many other copyrighted Dreamcast games, many of which were officially commercially released. I'm not going to participate in an edit war with you, but I'm also not going to back down on this. If you made the site legal by following the two steps above, I'll have no problem with you linking your fansite. MetaFox 16:21, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia lists much of its content based on the Fair Use clause of Copyright law. If you link to a place that has Illegal downloads, just because its your site, you are breaking:

  • The Free-Bias principle of Wikipedia
  • The Legal status that the project aims for. I'm sure it is not aiming to list Illegal downloads.

Please stop posting your page until you remove the offending links. NeOak 17:29, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your argument is not helped when the page also has torrents to other games. Please refrain from destroying the essence of Wikipedia. Dark Savant 17 :31, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Alright, whatever, I'll compromise: the link to the torrents was removed (and you know what's funny? I've just checked - they didn't work anyway). Stormwatch 17:50, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
And what about the illegal soundtrack downloads. Are you going to try to get permission to host them legally? Because the link is still dubious at this point. MetaFox 18:17, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What would be the point? I once tried to contact Treasure to do the same about Radiant Silvergun, and never got an answer. I don't think AM2 would reply either. For good or bad, I doubt they care. But I'll try anyway... got Yu Suzuki's email address there? Stormwatch 18:29, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the links to the downloads until you get a response. This is not only because it's illegal to host them without permission, but I've found that it's easier to negotiate with companies when their intellectual property isn't already being hosted without permission.
There is a compulsory license that automatically goes into effect after 30 days if you get no response, but I believe that is only for covers of songs, and not for the original songs themselves. There might be a similar license you can apply for in this instance.
Also, the licensed tracks should be removed from your website because they are all available for purchase:

Sarcasm will not help you, especially in legal matters. Until Sega agrees to allow people to host the soundtrack, it is illegal material. NeOak 18:44, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The link to AM2 seems to be broken. By the way, I've sent a message to Fat Mike (there's a form on NOFX's site), let's see if I'll ever get a reply.

You should remove the songs but I don't think theirs anything wrong with the Bit Torrent link, since it was never commercial released it woulden't matter.

Japanese release

[edit]

This article gives the impression that this game was totally unreleased. However, I've found that it was given a Japanese release (according to here: http://www.segagagadomain.com/dreamcast-ntsc2/propeller.htm). I think the article should have some information on this. Theswillman 07:27, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't released in Japan. - DCEvoCE 22:55, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Voice chat

[edit]

There is no mention here of the voice chat feature of this game. Using the microphone available with either Seaman or Alien Front Online, this game supported voice chat with other broadband players in online games. I still have a gold master around for this somewhere (yes, it was that close to release), and I really wish it would have made a commercial release. We were all disappointed when it was cancelled. added some info, thanks Compn (talk) 18:09, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why didn't they just release it for free?

[edit]

It says it was leaked, which means it was only published accidentally. Why didn't they just intentionally release it for free? Either way they wouldn't make any money from sales; at least if they released it for free people would still be able to enjoy it if they weren't offended by the similarity to 9/11.

Also yes, I know you couldn't officially just download a game and run it on the Dreamcast. But it was still very much possible, even on an unmodified console. So they could still publish the disc image somewhere for people to play in that way.

probably to save the IP so they could port/sell it to a new console later. honestly theres no reason not to release it now. -- Compn (talk) 22:45, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
