i am wondering

[edit]

if this article should be titled Po'pay. A look at the photograph at the bottom of this article National Statuary Hall Collection reveals that this is the spelling used on the statue in the US Capitol building. Carptrash 15:03, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Even if that's not the best spellign, shouldn't it be listed as an alternative? I know spellings vary (e.g., Dinneh vs. Diné) but if it's a common alternative it should be on the page.
It is listed as an alternative and there is a redirect at Po'pay. Oh and don't forget to sign your posts with 4 of these ~. Carptrash (talk) 23:28, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What was Popé's verdict and punishment in 1675?

[edit]

This article says:

Popé is one of the Native Americans who were accused, arrested and tried for practicing "sorcery" in 1675. Three of the men who were found guilty were taken to their respective villages; two were hanged. One hanged himself before the Spanish could. The remaining 44 were publicly whipped and sentenced to prison.

Something is missing here. The article says that Popé was "accused, arrested and tried". But it doesn't say whether he was found guilty. Isn't that the most important fact about any trial? Why isn't it mentioned here? And if he was found guilty, the article should say what his penalty was. We are only told that 2 were hanged, 1 committed suicided, 3 were sent back to their villages, and 44 were whipped. It's interesting to know the penalties that these other men received, but why aren't we told what penalty Popé received?—Lawrence King (talk) 23:22, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that I wrote that section, so I'll go back to my sources and see if i can't clear up some of the issues that you have raised. Carptrash (talk) 00:36, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
