Lack of definitive materials

[edit]

I haven't been able to find much definitive about this canal. There are varying references to its location, time of building and connection to the Lydney Canal

Here is what I have from online sources:

  • Was a 1.5 mile, 3 lock, canal from Middle Forge, Lydney, to Lydney Pill, Gloucestershire. Built about 1779, open until the mid-1840s. [1]
  • Pidcock's Canal was constructed from 1790 onwards, connecting Upper and Lower Forge at the head of Lydney Pill. [2]

Gloucester archives seems to have some materials pertaining to this canal. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] These latter records all seem to mention the route as being from Upper Forge to Lower Forge.

Paget-Tomlinson has three sentences in his book, and notes: "Lydney canal, completed 1813, joined Pidcock's" Oosoom Talk to me 11:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
