Incorrect Reversion
[edit]Jevansen recently reverted my edit, which he gave no other excuse for other than "removed vandalism". In fact, my edit was completely valid, and Jevansen wrongfully reverted it clearly having absolutely no knowledge of the topic, and when he read the slightly unusual truth, instantly decided that he would revert the edit, with absolutely no right to considering his incompetence in the subject. The fact is, Peter Crimmins' testicular cancer was supposedly caused by a towel whipping incident, and it was reported in the news at the time. It being such a delicate and embarrassing topic, The Peter Crimmins cancer fund website gives no details as to the cause of the cancer out of respect. All other websites merely follow the career of Crimmins, and it would be out of place to quote such a delicate issue. Therefore, the incident can only be found in obscure places on the web, such as forums etcetera, which do not fit into Wikipedia's sourcing policy. However, as none of the content in this article is sourced, I do not see it as a problem that this extra detail remains unsourced. Until the time that this fact is proven wrong by a source, I request that it remain on the article. Escapomobil (talk) 09:41, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- No, by wikipedia terms your edit was invalid, as you did not provide any form of WP:Verifiability. The onus is on the inserter of unusual, questional or potentially controversial info to prove it with a source, not the other way round. Wiki articles shouldn't have phrases like "supposedly" especially without a reference. If it was reported in the news at the time, then go to the library and find some of those articles. We can't just take you at your word, as that would be original research. The-Pope (talk) 22:58, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
For the sake of completeness for anyone reading this page, it is not correct that Crimmins' cancer was caused by towel-whipping, but that this incident led to the discovery of the cancer. Flat Out let's discuss it 00:15, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
In an article in The Age newspaper on the 28th of June 1975, Peter Crimmins himself states that he has no idea how the cancer was caused, but believes it may have been caused by a knock to the groin area at pre-season training that year. He was also hit hard in the same area in round 18 which resulted him seeing a doctor about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.115.78.244 (talk) 09:10, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
