Silver Star upgraded to Medal of Honor
[edit]he was awarded the Silver Star for his actions. The Silver Star has been upgraded to the Medal of Honor. Therefore, the Silver Star needs to be removed. Uniformcharlie886 (talk) 17:14, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Medal ribbons in Infobox
[edit]Hi there,
According to the logs I think you may have removed my work adding the ribbons for Paris Davis' medals to the info box. This change was requested by the team that worked with Paris to secure his medal upgrade, of which I am a member. The team lawyer has asked me to reverse your edit and add some further ribbons to the box. Before I go ahead I felt I should ensure you don't intend to remove it again. Is that ok? - I am aiming to update the site with ribbons like you see here:

- User:Eggbeast I see that you are an infrequent user of Wikipedia. If you have comments on content you make them on the subject Talk Page, not a User's Talk Page, so I have moved your comments from my Talk Page to here. No you do not add icons such as flags and medal ribbons in Infoboxes per WP:ICON, WP:III and WP:Manual of Style/Military history if you add them then I or some other User will delete them again. The Gary Gordon and Gary M Rose pages use what is called a medal rack, which seems to be an accepted way of presenting medals graphically. Best you don't mention lawyers in case that is construed as making threats of legal action. regards Mztourist (talk) 14:47, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- It's also worth noting you should verify each award using RS if you're creating or adding to a medal rack. Intothatdarkness 15:20, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- Can you enlighten me what RS is?
- We have DD214 and all the award citations, and letters from the army confirming all of the Colonels awards, as well as a photo to work from of Colonel Davis' uniform which was recently provided to him by the DOD containing all the relevant awards.
- I am not sure what system you use, but the Colonels uniform presented to him by the Army Chief of Staff to use in the White House ceremony was verified by them. That should be sufficient. Eggbeast (talk) 11:15, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
- RS is Reliable Source. Wikipedia prefers secondary sources, and in theory award citations are considered primary sources (it's one of the quirks of this place...whether I agree with it or not is immaterial). I would think what you have would suffice, though. And as far as "deleting your work," it will be evaluated based on Wikipedia's sourcing criteria. I wouldn't expect there would be issues so long as you provide sources (after all, there's some serious garbage floating around on some of these pages that's only sourced by a picture from a purported documentary of an individual's award shadow box...). - ok thanks for the clarification and assistance. We have completed the work for now. I have copies of his DD214 and citations if needed by anyone. Not sure I want to upload them all unless needed. Eggbeast (talk) 14:47, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

- No legal threats intended or implied to a wiki editor.
- The lawyer handled the legal battle with the DOD over the medal upgrade.
- We're going to update the page today, please refrain from deleting our work.
- We appreciate your assistance with this. Eggbeast (talk) 11:13, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
