Proposed merge with Round table (discussion)

[edit]

Both titles refer to the same practice, and "panel discussion" has a higher name recognition. NIGHTdevil 04:56, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My own experience is that round table is more familiar. It may be a regional thing. I've included an ngram search[1] on "round table", "panel discussion", "king arthur", and "camelot".

These two forms of discussion are not equivalent and should not be merged. In round table discussions, all members of the discussion are considered equal and each participant may contribute as much or as little as they would like. In a panel, you typically have a small group of experts or leaders who dictate the majority of the discussion, while an audience of sorts may ask questions or inquire about thoughts and ideas from the panel. In general, round tables are more casual and panels are more professional; thus if you are invited to speak at a panel you would likely want to be prepared in some way, whereas round tables are more conversation based and do not require much preparation.131.128.73.9 (talk) 15:23, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
