Ideological classification
[edit]As of late, there has been far greater interest in the semantics regarding the party's ideological classification than I would have expected. The Libertarian Party of Ontario is a right-wing political entity, promoting property rights, a partially-private health care system, emphasis on personal choice and parental supremacy in education, and a general reduction in the size of government (see the party's platform for more details). This is undoubtedly right-libertarianism. There is nothing left-libertarian about this political party. I've presented the following citations ([1][2][3][4][5][6]) as evidence of the party's right-wing philosophy. None of these articles use the specific words "right-wing" or "right-libertarian", as the party labours under the assumption that it operates 'outside the political spectrum'. This is, categorically, an attempt to build a counter-narrative around a traditional political party that maintains an already-established political philosophy.
So I pose the question to the community: what do we do about this? Is there consensus that the party is above classification in any respect? Is the broad moniker 'libertarian' acceptable when that term may not capture the particular economic affinities of the party's membership and candidates? Is there any other available citation that will finally put this frustrating question to rest?

- Just to be clear, the party describes themselves as simply libertarian correct? And none of these sources describe them as anything other than generally libertarian? Outback the koala (talk) 04:25, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
- The policy positions you have outlined are broadly libertarian positions, neither right-libertarian, nor left-libertarian, just simply broadly libertarian. Perhaps it could be argued they lean slightly more to the right, but not substantially when it comes to most libertarian parties. While libertarianism is generally classed as being outside the political spectrum, it is generally on the right-wing of politics when it comes to economic and fiscal matters and generally left-wing when it comes to social matters. All claims on Wikipedia pages should be supported by at least one citation from a reliable source, where the exact claim is stated within the source being given i.e. does not break WP:ORIGINAL or WP:SYNTHESIS. The sources you have given do all break Wikipedia's policy of synthesis of published material. Helper201 (talk) 01:13, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- There is absolutely no reason to proscribe a hyphenation of "left" or "right" to libertarian parties. The Ontario Libertarian Party does not use these terms. Furthermore, the notion that "property rights" or "a general reduction in the size of government" is somehow "right wing" would be absurd to classical liberals, whigs, and/or anarchists. I think that it is clear that you personally desire proscribing a "right-wing" moniker to overly simplify the political variety in Ontario, not to improve the quality of the wiki page. 216.168.109.216 (talk) 13:22, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
Executive Updates
[edit]There seems to be quite a bit of editing activity surrounding the party's executive. Is this section strictly relevant. Most other parties do not have such a section and, at the very least, don't list members-at-large and other small positions. Thoughts on this? HamOntPoliFiend (talk) 02:41, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
