Reference "The O-Zone: Bronze age booze"

On checking the reference I noticed that:

It's a column by the subject of the article (which he is credited as in the reference) - for one thing it seems to be an opinion column - does this breach WP:SELFPUB?
It is cited in the sentence "He polled just 348 first preference votes, but said his intention was to make a point." - the reference does mention his views on decriminalising drugs, but does not mention either the number of votes he got or his motive.
