HMS Warrior

[edit]

Wasn't this site called HMS Warrior for a while? I recall visiting it when it had that name, and although that was a few years ago, it's definitely the same place. Rhialto 03:37, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Northwood, and that's how I've always known it. I think it was the only land base to ever be given the HMS title (usually reserved for naval ships). I'll have a look on the sign.
There are many land bases with the HMS designation, eg. HMS Collingwood, HMS Daedalus, HMS Excellent, etc. Cheers, DWaterson 11:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

location

[edit]

If you follow Wikipedia's description of Northwood as being in Hillingdon borough, then Warrior is not in Northwood but Eastbury, Three Rivers, Hertfordshire. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.189.207.149 (talk) 17:43, 1 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Well the address is Sandy Lane, Northwood, Middlesex. I'd take it from the address that the base is in Northwood, rather than Eastbury.ALR 17:53, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Middlesex won't be part of the address. Local government boundaries should be used to determine where things are rather than postal addresses which are a law unto themselves. Woburn, Bedfordshire, is postally in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.104.213 (talk) 08:18, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

The base is within Hertfordshire its just has a HA postcode, Royal Mail post code boundaries don't follow the same boundaries as Counties. --Pandaplodder (talk) 18:20, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Partial repurpose of domestic site

Did Vega Crescent disappear as part of the 2006 major construction? I lived at 46 Vega Crescent 1958-61.Pieter1963 (talk) 16:32, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it's still there but inside the fence so no longer named as such.Pieter1963 (talk) 17:12, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We lived at number 45 in 1966. Dad was stationed there and I went to the local school age 11. It was not behind the fence then. 92.40.196.170 (talk) 10:54, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RAF at Northwood

[edit]

I'm not quite sure the comment "RAF left completely in 1969 is correct". I was stationed at Northwood with Headquarters 18 Group RAF from 1980 to 1982. 18 Group was the maritime group at the time - previoulsy Coastal Command 2A02:C7C:B612:5D00:FCC9:20F5:609F:6F3F (talk) 09:03, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Removed: the RAF are still present there now as part of Permanent Joint Headquarters. Dormskirk (talk) 09:52, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
