Belongings, precious or not

Clarification is needed on this: The lack of personal belongings in the settlement also lead to the belief that the people were given enough time to gather their most precious belongings before leaving. Either there are no belongings left at all, or there are some belongings in the settlement and one must explain why it is believed that some more precious belongings were gathered and taken away.
