Place of birth
[edit]Solin is a small town in Croatia. It's not too well known, and definitely not used much in Wikipedia quality. The correct place of birth is Dalmacija (Dalmatia), where Solin is located. If you look at any other article on a person, their place of birth is stated as the actual major city in which they are from. Thats why I quickly stated in his club career section that he is born in the small town of Solin, which is a village in the city of Dalmatia. Please leave it as it was before, with Dalmacija being his place of birth. Solin can and will be mentioned later in the article.
Also, a common consensus on Wikipedia is that the country of birth should be stated as what is was when the person was born. All Croatian footballer articles have SFR Yugoslavia as the country of birth, with the italic words (now Croatia) next to it. Its the right way to do it, please leave this as well. Future speculation
[edit]Probably time to remove this section or at least change it to past tense. It talks about Kalinic being expected to move in the Jan 09 transfer window. Obviously that didn't happen. Atouraya (talk) 00:19, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

2018 World Cup
[edit]The fact that this player was sent home for the reason that he was shouldn't just be in the body of the article, it should have a brief mention in the opening section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.230.208.234 (talk) 20:26, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
Requested move 7 September 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. No prejudice against an RM to remove the diacritics from the DAB. (closed by non-admin page mover) Charlotte (Queen of Hearts • talk) 21:21, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

- Why'd you think this'd be controversial, because of the 466 incoming links? I would assume most come from template links. Let's disambiguate those immediately and get a clearer count. --Joy (talk) 22:07, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

- Support the footballer has 2,564 views but the basketball player has 4,078. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:52, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support Nikola Kalinić → Nikola Kalinić (footballer). There are three men listed upon the Nikola Kalinić (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the footballer is primary over the combined notability of the remaining two men. However, oppose Nikola Kalinić (disambiguation) → Nikola Kalinić, but would support Nikola Kalinić (disambiguation) → Nikola Kalinic since one of the three men is Canadian-born and does not use a diacritic in his name. Thus, the main title header of the English Wikipedia dab page should be Nikola Kalinic with Nikola Kalinić redirecting to it, not the other way around. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 08:44, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Two of the three, and the two who command several orders of magnitude more interest from readers,[2] did not lose their diacritics, so we should not go out of our way to remove it from the index, either. --Joy (talk) 07:09, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
