New Spelling Vowels in IPA

  • a /æ/ in bat
  • e /ɛ/ in bet
  • i /ɪ/ in pit
  • y /i/ in pity
  • o /ɒ/ or /ɑ/ in pot
  • u /ʌ/ or /ə/ in but
  • oo /ʊ/ in good
  • aa /ɑː/ in father (faadher)
  • ar /ɑɹ/ in bar
  • ae /eɪ̯/ in made (maed)
  • aer /ɛɹ/ in fair (faer)
  • ee /iː/ in feel
  • eer /ɪɹ/ in beer
  • au /ɔ/ in haul
  • oe /oʊ/ in goes (goez)
  • uu /uː/ in food (fuud)
  • uur /ɔr/ in poor (puur)
  • ie /aɪ̯/ in cries (kriez)
