Query
[edit]What is the width of the strait? LorenzoB (talk) 03:35, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
Toponymic ambiguity
[edit]As seen in this map [1], Japanese "Nemuro Kaikyo" has two meanings: a narrow meaning, corresponding to Russian Kunashir Strait, i.e. the body of water separating Kunashir Island from Shiretoko Peninsula, and a broad meaning, which also includes the Notsuke Suido (in Russian: Izmena Strait). When the article gives the length as "74 kilometres (46 mi) long", is this the length of Kunashir Strait alone (narrow meaning), or does it include Izmena Strait as well (broad meaning)? Note that Japanese "Kunashiri Suido" is a completely different body of water (Catherine Strait in Russian) from Russian "Kunashir Strait". Vagabond nanoda (talk) 12:08, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
